Default Heaglight motor noise? PLEASE HELP!

My headlight motors are making a horrific noise. They work fine up ad down. but when they close shut, it sounds like the motors are still running even though they are down(making a grinding sound). And they also move to the up position when i turn the **** to the middle setting on the dash switch. What the heck could this be? Tried to do a search but it is'nt working.

its definitely on its way out then. there was a write up on opening the motor and turning the gear like 180* since thats all the motor is supposed to use but i dont know if that works. and you can also order a set of brass gears that wont wear down as an alternative to buying new motors.

Dang, thats just so wierd that it would do that all of the sudden! when I put the headlight switch to the middle position, the lamps flip up when they are not supposed to,and also when I unhooked the battery and hooked it back up it made the same grinding noise, coming from the motors. And also i just found this out, when i hit lock or unlock on my keyless entry the lamps flip up and down and make the same noise when they shut???? So wierd!

it's because the nylon gear in the motor is stripped, do as those above recommended, there is a lot of info about it and brent frankers site has a very good writeup...

you can swap the plastic drive gear in the motor out to a brass gear someone makes, do a search. You can also flip the plastic gear 180deg and it'll work fine for a good while till that side wears. Normal thing on the TAs.

Raise headlight, pop off actuating arm, manually turn motor 180*, put arm back on, FIXED.

I've been running mine with the fix for over 18 months now without problem.

I used to be a Taxi driver in England, you either learn to fix stuff damn fast, or pay someone else to fix it at their price and at their leisure, meanwhile the car is down and you're not earning anything.
If you research enough, you can find a "how to" for most repairs somewhere on the web.
