Default Progress pics of big boy LT1....

Made some good progress down at the shop in the past week helping out my engine builder (I do the menial tasks while he handles the big stuff).... it was cool however getting to watch over his shoulder and tutor me on little odds and ends he does to motors to prevent seal leaks, and the small stuff that the engine pros do when customers are usually away at work and home.... So in the last week we finished up the timing cover tig welding, bolted up the timing cover, finished the shortblock assembly, put the oil pan on after blueprinting the HV oil pump, checking main cap clearance and clearancing the pan rails. We're waiting on a smaller crank trigger to go with my new ATI balancer (got rid of my Fluiddampr), and we stripped down the heads bare so we can grind them to clearance them for the MONSTER manton pushrods (pic at bottom compared to a 5/16" hardened trick flow pushrod..... we're most likely about two weeks from "take this ************ home" status.... enjoy!!

dude look how similar our builds are , this is from last May/June timeframe 396 in the machineshop. I'm also using 3/8" pushrods, big as your friggin pinky.

no kidding, mine leaked in the first 5 minutes, took 4 hours and a point of that K&N block seal, she's been fine though since last June.

right through the threads. some use various methods, like teflon paste on the threads, we used the sealant in the coolant method while running. Whatever you do don't do what GForce done and let it blow coolant over your brand new detailed engine, it's still not all off. You have to vent it from the overfill tube with a long hose to the ground. They didn't for whatever reason and it got over everything, including my fenders.

Oh, ok. I was sure to use plenty of thread sealer, so I should be fine. What sealant did you use in the coolant, and is it available at a local parts store? Thanks!

she was already a SR, baby SR though, had a Crower lifter fail, chewed up the cam..so it was my excuse to get a custom grind by Allan @Futral and it's a FREAKING BEAST!!! (know it's not all about lift but still it has .708 lift ). The SuperVic gets ordered from PortPros after lunch, if I have enough in the bank ..

I used studs for years. Simply put a dab of silicone sealer on the stud threads before you screw them in the block. Don't over do it or you will find it in your radiator. I do the same with head bolts. Never have a problem.

you and me both..... i told my engine builder yesterday that after all the stress and delays with building this motor (some his fault, some mine) that we are going to rent those sumo wrestler suits with boxing gloves and go about three rounds all out until someone is knocked out....

he told me that it will be terrible if I run in the 8's but take pictures after with a black eye...

Harold at PortPros used some blue stuff on mine... I couldnt get that particular stuff so I ended up with some other sealant similar to the gooey black aircraft gasket maker. I had to pull a head for a simple oil plug and that head leaked a little, the head I didnt touch (has the blue stuff) never has leaked.
