New, unmodded LT1, whats a kid to do??
Working on getting my hands on an unmolested LT1, and have heard several different things as far as what to do to it. I have heard that LT4 conversions make the motors badass, and general CAI/exhaust ****. Im just looking for some tips on what to mod first and whats the best stuff for the money. Also planning on making this a daily driver, WILL RARELY SEE THE STRIP!!!! So keep that in mind. BTW, planning on the car being a M6, so is a 4.10 rear too hardcore for gas mileage? Thanks for the help guys.

My friend's Vette is an M6, and he doesn't even need 6th for anything. Now, I don't know if he has 3.42 or some super low gears, but 6th is pretty worthless. That, and he can max out the governor in 3rd I think he said. Fun times. Anyways, 4.10s is peachy keeno for the M6.
Whatever you do, make damn sure you get it tuned after you're done.

Just do a lot of searching and the LT4 conversion is a big waste of $$$ first mods to start with would be gears 4.10s might be to high for a DD depends how much you go on the HW. Another mod would be CAi then LT headers with a good flowing exhaust. Finally if you want to start making the real power look into H/C set-ups Like LE2 or similar also look into better clutch for all the power and finally if you still need more power after the H/C then its time for a rebuild. 355 or 383. also do not forget the suspension mods. all in all have fun modding and make sure you do as much research as possible and another good tip never listen to your friends or anyone about mods before researching it yourself lol.

Lol. Excellent tip. Honestly highway wont be that big of an issue. How badly will a 4.10 cut out on top end( I have no place to go 120+ around here except the 1/4 an 1hr and a half away)

i dunno i get mine into 6th quite often...really depends if oyu are jsut cruising or if you are trying to keep power harnessed. as for hitting the governer in 3rd, i HIGHLY doubt that. as for mods and keeping daily driver friendly, I went the lt4 hotcam route and am very happy. good power. decentish gas mileage, not too loud not too quiet, just all around happy with it and I havent even opened it up with headers yet. If i were you I would do header 1st! going form stock manifolds to headers is a TREMENDOUS gain. I wouldnt waste time with shorties, go mids. next make sure you get tubular LCAs, that will eleminate wheel hop and might save your rear from premature death. get a catback, ls1 front brakes, rear gears, ignition upgrade, and that will put you well on the road for your car. I wouldnt worry about a throttle body until you get some intake and headwork done. I cant stress gettign a set of tubular LCAs enough thou. Wheelhop will KILL your rear quick. Also with the LCAs you will get a much better feel when you are getting on the gas.

If its a M6 car, go with the 4.10s! In the top of 5th gear you are still hitting 150-155mph. And it gets there a lot quicker than with the 3.42 that come stock in the M6 cars. If you aren't even planning on making tons of HP or run drag radials, 4.10s in the 10 bolt are fine, I'm running the T/A girdle and the stud kit, they are holding up fine and I pound on the car everytime I take it out.

Go with the 4.10's, dont waste money on the lt4 kit, get long tubes get a cai, if you are interested in the lt4 kit look at loyd elliot's site - much more worth the money. I would start with all of the bolt ons first and then look at Head/cam /intake packages or like Im doing and going to NOS!

My thoughts
K&N cai( I got one with a new filter $130)
MAF(I got one with billet ends $80)
Mac shorty headers
Catback, or a stock LS1 catback with a straight through muffler and a single tip.
Frame connectors
a tune.
Me, I would stay away from the 4.10's and the stock rear end...they tend to break pinions easily.
