Default L98 shortblock into LT1

Posting for a friend...apparently his boat anchor of an LT1 bought the farm...

At any rate, he has a L98 355 that has yet to find a home just lying around...It's built pretty stout from what i remember...

What we're trying to find out is if the shortblock will work with the LT1 heads and all that top end bullshit...

I know there is a cooling system issue, wouldn't an electric water pump remedy this situation???

What else is needed to make this happen, or any other avenues of cost effective measures to make the car run again...

I know the rotating assembly would swap over with some machine work to the LT1 block, but we're unsure of the damage caused, if any, to the LT1 block...

What do you fine people suggest we do???

Any help might be appreciated

I don't even remember what all has to be done anymore. We had a long 3-4 page thread on this already just a month or so back. Hell it might even be his thread since you're posting for a friend lol

Wont work and wouldn't be worth it money wise to even try. The cooling system issue is that LT1s are reversed cooled, so it's not just a water pump issue its the way the cooling system works with an LT1. If it could be done, you would see a lot of people converting Dart and Sportsman blocks for their LT1s. Some one did it once with a after amrket block, but the machine costs would cost more money than its even worth doing. The L98 block has zero advantages over the LT1 also.

What he means is.. yes it CAN be done, but it's cheaper to spend the money on a used LT1 and have it rebuilt

So pretty much we should just swap over the rotating assembly...

Well let's go about it a different way. What happened to the LT1?

I think they don't fully know yet, that's the issue.

OIC. Well I think machine work on fixing the LT1 might be a better endeavor than trying to use the L98 parts.
