I dont think you can have a budget to build a 550hp LT1. Whats todays price about a solid 10K.

he doesn't need that much. a 355 with a good (solid or HR) cam and heads with some compression will do it.

You could build a nice 650hp big block with that budget and stick it in your truck.

buy a 502 crate motor, comes with almost everything except for accessory brackets. Thats 502 hp and 567 tq, and it would be bad ***. With that size engine you could make so much more hp with it too. I wish i through a big block in my camaro instead of built up the ole lt1

I think the guy wants to work with what he's got. There isn't any reason that he can't get that kind of power out of the LT1. I think he should contact Lloyd and get his opinion on the build. Maybe the guy doesn't wan't a boat anchor in the front of his ride. If all that he wants is the power that he listed there isn't any reason for carrying around the extra 150-175 lbs when that kind of power is attainable from the LT1. Just my humble opinion.

^ I agree.

There's several ways to get 500+ rwhp out of an LT1.
If it where me...

LE2 heads & cam, forged internals/rotating assembly, Procharger, supporting mods.

^ I like your choice but he said N/A. So I would start with a forged 383 or 396, a nasty set of heads, big custom bump stick, supervic or custom intake, etc... That would reach 550 at the wheels

exactly what I was thinking.

Because 550fwhp is achievable I think with a 7k budget, but 550rwhp would not be.

I have the combination you need for 550HP at the rear wheels through an automatic with an LT1 N/A. No problem, give me a call I'd be happy to go over your options.

Thanks,
Harold

Hey did you do the LT1 swap yourself for your truck? Just wondering as I have a 88 stepside and will have a spare LT1 laying around down the road, so I was going to put it in the truck.

Anyone that is wishing to do something like this has to consider one thing. You are going to throw EVERYTHING on your original motor away. Also you can throw the K-member away unless you plan on modifying it to fit a BBC. ALL of your accessories will have to be redone, rerouted, good luck getting the HVAC box to fit, good luck getting custom made headers for it (1300 bucks roughly).....

The old "THROW A 502 IN THAT BITCH AND BE DONE WITH IT" does not work if you only have 10K..... Doing a BBC the right way would get into the teens of thousands.....

And 550 RWHP i don't think can be done for 7K reliably..... for that amount of power you're gonna need a SP manifold, and SR cam..... compression, a good bottom end and fuel system..... you can make the 550 maybe but the surrounding equipment ain't gonna be darn happy about it for long.... 550 flywheel. Yeah it can be done for 7K.... 355 big hyd roller, 36 lb injectors, good stage II heads and some tuning and you'll be right around that #....
