Default largest STALL without tuning

i have a 94 z with a 2500 stall, i want to go bigger but do not want to have to send my computer in to retune for a larger stall . i would like about a 3000 stall, would this work without having to retune the computer.

What exactly are they tuning? Nothing needs to be changed except maybe for the shift points. Sometimes converters will cause you to hit the rev limiter. I didn't need tuning with my Yank 3200.

if I'm not mistaken, they refer to it as "stall wall" or something like that.

seeing as the 4L60E doesn't have an input shaft speed sensor like the 4L80E does. exact slippage of the converter is calculated from a predetermined scale in the computer when engine RPM, a specific gear is selected, and the output shaft speed (VSS) are all calculated together.

I'm not really sure if this table can be adjusted ("tuned") or not. I've seen quite a few people have fits with their tranny's wanting to go in its "limp home" mode. like going from 1st gear to 3rd, skipping second all together, and then locking in 3rd till you shut off the car.

I've never messed with any of it before, but I *think* that's what he is asking about.

and to my knowledge, a 3000rpm stall wouldn't give you any problems with this.

if the computer isnt tuned for the stall it will stall up to only what it was tuned for. the 4L60E is all computer run. The shift points, fuild pressure, stall, etc.... i highly suggest getting the car tuned but its only a suggestion.

Ummm, not sure where you got that one. While it is true that you can change parameters in your tuning software (at least I can in LT1Edit) your stall will still be much higher than the stock 1800 rpm stall speed, even without tuning.
I ran my 3400 stall for months without tuning it. Never had a problem, except that it was a bit loose.

w/o question it will be but it wont be everytime. If you do it without a tune then its going to be inconsisnt and it will not be break when the should. thus, the reason why everyone said tune after stall, cam, or heads especially. Truly if you threw a stock car on a dnyo tune and played around with some stuff on the dnyo your going to get alot more HP and TQ out of it. So, how can you say a tune wouldnt do anything ?

a tune for a stall is to help even out the surging you can get at idle, and a few other adjustments like if you're hitting the rev limiter. OBD1 guys sometimes will need the tune for stall wall problems.

that sounds pretty silly. the motor is gonna stall up until it cant turn the convertor any harder. how would the computer have any control over this?

Next Level, the PCM doesn't know what the hell kind of converter you have. You could have a 10000 rpm stall converter in there for all it knows.

technically yes. What year is your car? 94-95 OBD1 cars have a stall wall issue that can or might not be present. OBD2 cars do not have that issue. So yes you can throw the stall right in. If you don't like the surging at idle or if you're hitting the rev limiter it will need to be tuned.

I agree buffman. I like the way my car drives better with the tune, especially off idle. But it was perfectly driveable without the tune also, just looser than I prefered.
