Hey John. You definatley have a strong running bolt-on LT1. I was toss out the cam swap idea and remove some weight. Go with some suspension parts and be deep in the 7s

Yeah I just need to find a good 26" tire, but too bad I'm broke for a while still paying off the shocks, springs and a few other recent mods...

Anyhow, here are a few launch pics from yesteday...

The 28"er's getting a 1.655 60'

The 26"er's getting a 1.8xx (don't have the slip in front of me) 60', and ET and MPH were better then the run before it with the 28" tires...

How much lighter is an LT1 Camaro than an LT1 Trans Am? Assuming the options are the same

I don't know if there are hard numbers but it is my understanding that the T/A is about 100# heavier the the camaro or formula, due to the added side skirts, mor material in the bumpers and the wing is where most of the added weight it, that and mot T/A's came with leather seats and extra things such as power seats, where they were optional in the other models... At least that is how most of the dealerships had them back in the day...

Any idea as to what the side skirts weigh? I've been wanting to lose them for a while now. They look too bulky for me. Also, is having the extra 35 or so pounds of wing over the rear wheels a bad thing? Wouldn't it help a little with traction?

I've been torn for a while now as to whether I should keep my car or sell it for a black Camaro. I'm thinking of selling it, but I do like my car. A black LT1 Z with the Jongbloed hood. That would be ****

Nice launch pics. You're there with a good hook and decent DA. It will only get cooler, so look forward to better times and M/T 275/50s will get the job done for a 26" tire. Maybe an early christmas present being that you've tapped the racing budget.

Thanks,

I am currently searching for the best tire and I have narrowed it down to the M/T 275/50 DR's or the 26X11.5 Hoosier QTP's, with the nod heading more to the QTP's because they are slightly stickier and are cheeper. But, I have never run a bias ply tire before, and I kinda like the current M/T 275/60 DR's so the shorter one should be work well too...

It would be so much easier for someone to just give me a set so I don't have to choose...

Lol, it's gonna take a while. I'm going to be working 60 or so hours per week for mod money. I have A LOT of work to do. I plan on doing full bolt ons and gobs of weight reduction. I want to replace just about everything on my car. It's starting to show its age. Plus, my ultimate goal is to stomp my dad's Viper. I don't think I'm doing that with bolt ons and weight reduction.

And there is no need for a 58mm TB at this level, I'm not making enough power to warant it, and it would be over kill for a bolt-on car. Also I know a few guys that have slowed down and loss power on the dyno after putting on a 58mm TB when the rest of the combo (stock H/C) couldn't support it...

Update...

I have only been back to the track once since last month, and was having traction issues so I asked the wife to take a vid from behind, then I had this 12.0 pass in 80+* temps and 1800+' DA...

She's looking good for the record...

please explain why? better mixed fuel actually burns better and cleaner and makes more power...colder fuel makes bigger molecules that dont mix as well and dont burn as clean...hotter fuel burns way cleaner and will make more pwoer

Remeber if you run a bias ply in the rear you gotta run it up front to, or your car will shake real bad.

I say try and throw on a 58mm TB, it may just be a marginal gain but when going for a record everything helps. Oh and maybe some roller rockers.

Looking good, John! It will only get faster as the days get cooler now that fall is here. Good luck and keep us posted.
