Default replacing the clutch...

What are yalls reccomendations for a good flywheel/clutch replacement to the factory? I was thinking something along the way of a stage 2 ish. stage 3 is just too freakin hard for DD's IMO. Any guides for replacing the sucker? I think the power my car is pushing finally burnt it up.

ALso, what do yall think about aluminum flywheels? I've heard you can gain some HP with them, but sometimes they suck?

Stage 3 really isn't bad for DD. It all depends on who you ask. I have one in mine and it's fine.

Al flywheels aren't typically good, IMO. If you get one make sure you get one with the replaceable center piece so that you don't have to keep buying new ones. There really isn't a lot of HP gain with them, but your motor will definitely rev faster.

I like the RAM clutches with a billet flywheel.

Like said above, it is preferance, i like a stiff *** clutch that grabs hard, but other people want a smoother ride.

if you are replacing the clutch because of the rpm difference you said you were getting in the last post, you dont need to replace it. that is not a clutch issue. now if you think it is slipping on the top end then go ahead

The cheap route is to replace just the plate, so you could do that till you can aford a bad *** clutch.

why is that? my spec 3 pushes easier than my stock clutch did.

im happy with my spec stage 3 clutch but i wouldnt buy another. It took 5k miles to break in (stop chattering). I will admit that was partially my fault because i think was TOO gentle with it. Now that i have some miles on it, it works great. It grabs awesome, i can chirp 4th gear consistently. I dont think it drives difficult but you do need to release progressively. Puck clutches dont like to be held at a constant slip, or theyll start to chatter... which is why they arent good in traffic. so... traffic is the only time i have a problem with mine. If you know how to drive it, itll drive fine. dont ever put a spec 3 in and expect to be able to drive it like stock. its not going to happen. most people have to learn how to take off all over again to keep it happy. "personality traits" like that is just the fun that comes with having a modded car. I rev mine up to about 2k before releasing the clutch and just let the RPM absorb it (i hardly use any gas after the initial rev). Its smooth as butter when i take off like that.

i guess what im trying to say is this: If you put a puck clutch in and expect it to drive different, youre going to love it. but if you expect it to drive like stock youre going to be in for a big disappointment. f you accept that you are going to have to ADAPT to it, youll probably get good enough at driving it that none of your passengers will ever notice you have a performance clutch.
