Lifted or burned a Head gasket......
Well I actually got to work on the car this weekend. It is getting there. Got the cage all painted finaly. I put the heater box in and when I went to top the engine off I had to add a gallon of water!
I figured damn I must have lost more then I thought. So I finished topping it off and turned the engine over....Water came shooting back out of the radiator! F&^%! Well I guess that explains the miss it picked up when I drove it around the block Saturday
I knew exactly which hole to check. I burned a plug on #8 last year in testing. Sure enough when I stuffed the bore Scope in #8 there were signs of water. Not much but enough. Pulled the dip stick and found about 1/2Qt over full and a dark brown Milkshake.
So the biggest Question is do I put on the Fel-pro 1074s I have sitting here or pick up a set of Cometics to put on it? The bonus of the Comectics is I will pick up a closer seal and a hair more CR. Not much but the differance from the Fel-pro 4.125 bore and the Cometic 4.040 bore
Oh well IT happens

Well Like I said we melted #8 last year in testing. We re-jetted that hole and all seemed well. The Engine was very clean inside no rust at all. I am pretty sure it let go saturday when I took it for a spin. It picked up a miss. I thought it was justa fouled plug. OOPS!
I should know more tomorrow.
BTW It is a 82 Jet out of the hole
OH YEAH> I am pissitive it was "pushing water" I had water all over My Snap_on Muscle car box and it is six feet tall!

Interesting, I had the exact same problem this weekend. I blew the pass side head gasket while I was on the roadcourse at VIR. I had just come down the front straight at 150mph and in the middle of turn one the engine acted like it back fired and it blew the coolant overflow tank's cap off. I got it towed back to the pits and when I got it started back up I had water almost pouring out of the exhaust. I am about in the same state of tear down as you are, the head should be coming off tonight. All the oil in the lifter valley is milky. I am also running the felpro head gasket and am considering a change, but I am also lazy and don't want to pull the other head if I don't have too. I too am wondering why this happened? I am NA but my compression ratio is in the 11.6:1 range.

A LITTLE blow!
All I can say is the pictures say it all. I hurt this thing over a year ago and made my 10.0 pass on it. There are over 20 passes on this gasket since I burned it and 1,000 miles.
Take a look
This side looks good
This side.....
Parts are on the way! heads are going to the Machinest to be checked out in the morning!
