LS1 Driveshaft ?'s
I was looking into buying an aluminum LS1 driveshaft and had a few ?'s. Is it a DIRECT bolt in shaft? How much stronger is it? Any noticable performance gains (faster rev, accel? anything), is it truly worth it?
Thanks
Thanks

I'm not complaining, how much you paying for it?

Yup 82-02 shafts are interchangeable.
Auo/Manual V6/V8 3rd/4th Gen .. it doesn't matter.
The only oddball was the 2-peice steel shaft they put on some of the 60* V6s.
But it can be removed and replace with a 1pc. (which is a significant weight savings)
$125-150 is the price I see most often.
I have seen a few for $50-$75 over the last year or so.
Peak gains are minimal, but you'll see a significant change over the entire curve
and you will notice a reduction if your vibeshaft was causing you trouble at high speed.

I'd opt for one with lower mileagle.
Although replacing the U joint is always cheap insurance.
(Even the beefy ones are under $20)

The wierd thing I noticed is that I never had any vibration with my stock shaft. I got an LS1 shaft, expecting to notice some type of difference, but there was no change. I just thought that was kind of odd because everybody here on the forums experienced some vibration, and I did not.

But the issue was widespread enough to warrant a TSB from GM.

As far as vibration, the aluminum ds will help. As far as being stronger, not true at all. Many people I know and more that I've talked to have had the aluminum ds break. I'm only talking on mildly modded cars too. Most people with these ds stock swap them out for stronger steel ds. The aluminum shafts were only on 6 speed LS1 cars in case anyone still wants one.
