6200 here no problems. smacked the rev limiter a couple times (6700) due to a bad tranny but didn't break anything.

My shift points are at 6200rpm. Not sure how long they have been there.

Rev limiter is set at 6800, I shift as high or low as I want. 104k miles.

Yes, but if you are building a performance engine the main caps probably are. A 2-bolt main at the RPMs you're talking about I would think would be much more likely to walk than if you are splayed to a 4-bolt. Overall though I get your point. Allow me to clarify my statements from my previous post. I am mainly referring to what a lot of us have, which is a car that was owned by Joe Somebody (many times several Joe Somebodys), and we really have no clue how it was taken care of for a lot of its life, which is where the luck part comes in. In your case yeah, beat the living shiz out of it, I would too. But for the reasons I just stated I wouldn't go recommend that for most LT1 owners, especially if thier car is what takes them to work. Now I understand that is an irrelevant point for many here, but just something I thought I would throw out there for clarity. In my case my car is my main mode of transportation, so I am more likely to stay on the safe side of things. Don't get me wrong, I am not afraid to beat on it some or even race it, but you won't find me revving it to 7k without a stronger bottom end. As with every post in this thread, that is just my opinion.

for how cheap it is to rebuilt...id do it guys before you cam your car...its a simple 350 dollars worth of bearings and rings and gaskets assed to your cam stuff and valvetrain and a little more involved...but then you dont have to worry about it nearly as much...and its pretty simple to do....

Good advice to a point. However, a few thoughts...

1.) Some of us have an apartment parking lot to install a cam, but no garage to rebuild a motor.

2.) If I tear completely into my engine, I'm going to do it right and rebuild it with forged internals.

I rebuilt my bottom end simply to be safe, i wish i could have afforded to put in forged internals but ill wait until i bore it out and stroke it and do it right then.

Yea I also rebuild my bottomend. I wanted to see what the car would do with the setup I was running when it decided to spin 2 rod bearings After taking apart my stock engine I saw that the stock oiling system was really junk lol, the pick up is half covered up. So I invested in a canton 6-quart pan and a melling oil pump. And I dont worry about anything.
