Think about it because exhaust from each side of the motor has a cat to go through instead of both sides forcing themselves into 1 cat.
At least thats the idea behind why GM did it but in all reality a LT1 is a LT1 is a LT1. Same thing with the Corvette being rated higher. True they had dual exhaust but they are all the same.

. Doesn't matter how long they keep the pipes separated. The fact that is goes down to one pipe restricts the car big time.
Hate to think it but honestly I think GM just bullshitted the public to get more people to buy them. Think about it, they new the LS1 was around the corner and this was the final push to get the most $ they could out of the LT1 cars. Companies play games.
