in reference to one of the guys early, could I spin the motor up to 6500 or 6800? what would be the dangerous point for the engine and trans with either of these cams? Can the LPE spin higher? what would make more between the LPE 219 cam vs. 503?

No one can really put a measuring stick on when a motor will blow but 6500 is very high for a stock bottom end! You actually wouldn't even need to rev that high with either of those cams. With stock heads and either of those cams 6200 is more than enough. And actually deciding shift points shouldn't be up to the driver, its up to the motor. When I say that I mean you put the car on a dyno and see at what RPM's it stops making power. If you rev higher than that point it is pointless since you stopped making power already.
IMO the 503 will make more power although others have made lots more power with smaller cams and the right setup. I say 503 not only because I have it but also it is big enough that if you want ported heads you can gain alot more than the LPE. But at the same time it works fine with stock heads since you don't have to rev too high.

I just ran the car last night and with the stock converter which is killing me, my shift points only at 6000rpm, and spinning enough off the line to kick the *** end sideways and spinning into second I ran consistent 12.8's at 110mph so I'd say the 503 is a pretty good choice for you.

i dynoed my car this past saturday and with the 503 the power dropped of at about 5600 or so, motor is a 383 with 6 inch rods and ported stock heads, power came quick and fast , but just dropped a little too early for me, when i had it just stock 350 it pulled to about 6100 and then dropped, bigger cubes need bigger cam
