One of the reasons he moved it was to make a nice engine bay mount point for the msd 6AL, not just that he wanted the ls1 intake for a gain of power. I believe its pretty sweet and can be made to be functional. Sucking air thru the fenderwell sucks in the rain it tends to get wet its just easier with a setup like this.
I am doing this exact same thing, soon to my car. I have seen 1 other with the same setup as this guys. I have the Ultra Z hood and figure it would work well.

He got a good deal from a friend of ours on this setup. I personally think this setup will work out well for him. I HATE sucking form the fenderwell! My 00 also sucks from down low with the procharger setup and i hate that. Im gonna do a C5 kit and move it to the top and suck from the top.

that is a nice setup the way that guy did it but i think im going to try something diff i like to be diff and do diff stuff that nooone else has done....and like whitez said i moved it for a clean place to mount my msd box and get the intake out of the water and dust cuz my filters didnt last long on my old intake and they would be filled with tiny stones and wet
