Ram Air vs K&N

streetwarrior and a few others have no complaints thus far with the setup
The airbox/ramair style is generally considered to be better than the LT1 style CAI.
I don't know if either one has "been proven time and again" better, but if so it certainly isn't the CAI over the ramair style airbox.

With results so close to an open TB(within margin of error), I cannot see any room for improvement unless you were very large cubes. A stock cube LT1 just doesnt breathe enough air to make a FIPK a restriction - and that is with ported heads, intake, and a healthy custom cam. I bet with a brand new filter there would be maybe 1hp different - an altogether insignificant number when talking about dyno hp.
Of course this doesn't account for any "ram air" effects it may have, but that has always been difficult to test and results are debatable.
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
that is the reason i do not waste time on dyno's it's real hard to race on them.the dyno cannot simulate 100+ mph of air forcing its way 12" to the manifold...
i have many dyno day friends, the track is the way..
the picture i used belongs to injuneer(Fred)

Ram Jets need to do like Mach 7 though
But that's a whole different story. They are using the speed to compress the air and gas to make it spontaneously combust
Anyway, my mustang was down due to a tie rod that broke in my driveway ( thank god) so i had to drive the bird to work one day with no hood...
There is a really straight highway comming home from my gym after work and nobody is ever on it,anyway a modded S2000 pulls up next to me, and wants to run it, so we start going through the gears, my car was definatly sucking in some serious air, and honestly sounded like a supercharger at around 4800rpm.. anyway i put a few lengths on the kid, and he kept trying to give me the ricer fly by, so i just stuck in it, and burried the speedo, the highways ends and we slow down and go our seperate ways, but i pulled over to feel the intake, and the whole motor was just freezing from going through the air so fast... Now i know this doesnt really have to do alot with which is better, but i cut the baffles out of my ramair hood, and i put it back on and it still definatly is getting plenty of nice cold air, something i dont think a fender mounted one would get... bottom line is the way the lt1 ramair is mounted, its not going to make power on the dyno without the cold air going through it
Performance wise i do not care what the dyno says that is not where i drive!
