That's where the cam wants to make power, but without better heads it ain't happening.
If you are going to run this on a stock headed car I wouldn't shift it much over 6500.

thats up to my friend, his motor im still unsure what i want to do. I really want the le2 and i just bought my guide plates and 1.6rr for a nice deal! so i just need to fig out what i want to do with the heads and cam!

My car made power to about 6500-6600 shifted it at 6800

i think im just to wait another month and go with the le2 ill have the money by then

its not about peak power....its about more power across the rpm band....an le2 car, will most likely lay down better times than what my car would, although mine would dyno higher....

I agree, spinning high rpm's on a stock bottom end with high miles will most likely cause you to spin a bearing....
Schweet97z and all of the others who responded to my question THANK YOU! for the answer. I thought that the LE3 was better than the 847. But just wondering what setup I'm really wanting to run. So far I have already decided to do a Forged 383 with 11.8:1 compression and a LE2 head/cam package and his ported intake, as well as all of the bolt ons...I hope it flat out gets it when I'm done....I'm wanting a low 11 second street car and I'll be content with it. Hell IF it's not what I'm expecting I'll go ahead and throw a Bigger cam in it and see what happens. I'm doing my Moser 12 bolt and Transmission next winter....Can't afford to do EVERYTHING this winter. Thanks again you guys

So far I have already decided to do a Forged 383 with 11.8:1 compression and a LE2 head/cam package and his ported intake, as well as all of the bolt ons...I hope it flat out gets it when I'm done....I'm wanting a low 11 second street car and I'll be content with it. It possible to spin a bearing....but I wouldnt go and say it will be spun with in a month....reving a stock bottom to the moon is a ticking time bomb for something to happen....but thats why I have my shifts set at somewhat on the conservative side...do a good clean install, run good name brand oil, and make sure the oil pump has good pressure....you should be fine for alittle while. But the key factor is CLEAN install....no dirt floors, make sure its in an enclosed garage, and just take your time.
James, Your welcome....also, bump that compression up to about 12.0-12.1. sounds like you got urself a decent build going there....however I think you should do rear, and tranny before you do the motor....

Yeah this is my first LT1 car and First 383 Build.... So i wanted to make it a healthy street car and Lloyd Elliot Kept telling me to go with 12:1 compression or there abouts, But I had my engine builder pick up a set of 11.55:1 Forged Pistons for my application b/c I was worried about detonation on pump gas, and before I ever heard of Lloyd Elliot. Once I heard of Lloyd I contacted him and he said that with his LE2 Heads it would take my compression up to 11.8 or so. But if I knew then what I've learned now I would've went with 12.0+ Compression. But I'm still not that far off from it. Plus my block is decked to zero and I may use a thinner Head Gasket to try and obtain 12:1. But I'm pretty sure I'll be content with it for now.
And as far as the Rearend and Trans goes; I'm not gonna put my motor in until mid to late summer so I'm only looking at having it running for a couple months during this summer, then doing the driveline next winter. So I'm not concerned with breaking a rearend or transmission. I have a spare rearend and a Good Friend who builds Transmissions. But thats gonna be next in line after the engine is tuned and up to PAR! Also once the Trans. and Rear is done. I'm doing a full UMI/BMR/Spohn Suspension setup. (The rear is gonna be a Moser 12 bolt with 3:73's. And the trans. will be a Built 4l60-e to top it off.) Thanks for the advice... I've been doing ALOT of researching to find a good setup! Yeah thats them.
With the LE3 package Lloyd told me you should run a -5cc piston to clear the valves if I remember correctly. I am really excited that my engine is finally coming together. I cant wait to post up some LE4 cam vids.
