Camaro V6/V8 for a girl?
Hey guys! My girlfriend drove a Chevy 2500 through high school and then had it taken away by mommy when she got to college because it was not lady like! Her replacement car was a 2003 Kia Optima Anywho, she wants to sell her import POS and buy a nice American car.
Here is her situation! She does a LOT of driving and its on Daddies gas card but!!! he will bitch if the bill goes up a lot. Most driving is on the highway so I convinced her to buy a LT1 body camaro and paint it pearl pink with hot pink racing stripes. Only problem is going to be the gas mileage. Most driving is on the highway. What would be a realistic difference of mileage?
80% of driving is highway @ 85 - 90 mph.

Hmmm... She basically destroyed my clutch but bought my me a nice new on for christmas... so stick is out of the question.
My good friend builds show cars for a living. Right now he is doing a frame off on my El Camino with a 1994 Corvette H/C/I LT1. Frame and fire wall are getting painted as we speak!
She decided on Pearl Pink with pink racing stripes and a big back window sticker that says Barbies Chevy or Chevy something??? I don't know, but I think on a scale of 1 to 10, any girl that gets out of a Camaro gets an automatic 3 points to start with. ha

****... I am putting a H/C/I 383 LT1 in my El Camino. With a sick tune and about 550 HP motor what kind of gas mileage should I expect to see? Its got 3.73's with 20x10 rims in the back. My elco weighs about 2300 lbs with all the fiber glass parts.

Just for the record Corvino... Corvette parts are no different (sans cam) than the F-Bodys
Her, I'd say get her a Grand Prix GPX with the LS4. Has DoD for better mpg, it's still an auto, it's still a V8, it's the better (hate to say it) LSx line, and can be upgraded to around 400hp with ease.
If it has to be a F-Body, then V6 stick, but since she can't drive a stick... kinda screwed heh

Hmmm - i don't know which car has which LT1's internals. My car guy said different LT1's have different stuff so I specify which one I have. I guess thats a big deal for people who have a caprice LT1 compared to a F-body LT1?
I guess it doesn't matter at all with a new 383.

My 3.4 got me around decently. . . I saw 30+ mpg on a couple of trips. It was really difficult to do, being a teenager behind the wheel of a sports car. . . lol I had a 94 3.4 Camaro 5 speed, still have it, but I've got a nice, powerful addition to the stable now. . .

WEll the B-Body (Caprice, Impala, etc etc) have different heads and cams, but same intake.
Why not get a V6 and then turbo/super charge it? Don't the newer F-Bodys come with a 3.8? Make a Turbo 3.8 reminiscent of a 89 25th Anniversary 3.8 Turbo (from the Grand Nationals)

I upgraded to some LT4 parts. I know how much you kids hate the edelbrock LT4 intake, but the motor man said it should be a nice thing to add to my 383 so I did. (got some additional porting and such) Anywho, I have to run some stuff by her. Good info - good ideas!

I personally still have an opened mind about the Edel. Others here are taking one guys dyno numbers as set-in-stone, but even the guy who posted them said not to take them but with a grain of salt because it was done on 2 different dynos, and the ONE pull with the LT4 w/ the cutouts closed was a bad pull anyways. So they're the only numbers we've seen @ 5hp/14ft.lbs and using a different dyno can varry -15 to +15.

Here's a possibility you might consider:
Get an LT1 F-body with a bad engine and slip in an L99 (265 cu. in.) engine out of a Caprice. Make sure it's got the tallest rear gears and the mileage should beat any F body out there. The L99 can't be told from an LT1 but should push the car down the road with plenty of zip.
Sure, it's got iron heads, like the B-body LT1, but if you put some headers in when you do the swap you'll get back the extra 50 pounds.

Id say if you even like the girl let her buy an inexpensive ls1 car with a 6 speed and she will get the best gas mileage around. we all know how much of a PITA an lt1 can get whether we like them or not its just not user friendly. You know she is a woman just let her get a cheap ls1 with a 6sp and call it the day. stop playing with yourself...
but if this is a bullshit thread then go ahead and bullshit to your hearts content and forget what im talking about.
