Default Head & Cam Price?

iv got a 96 LT1 and its got 159,000 miles on the factory engine and i was wondering how much i would roughly be looking at for a rebuild and a head and mild cam swap. including a speed shop pulling and stabbing it. i know its alot to ask for but i know somebodys done it, thanks

depends on how wild of a rebuild you're looking into

I know LE head and cam packages are great power producers for the money

You will get into alot of money for labor. IMO find a way to get the engine in and out yourself. then take it to a machine shop it will probably cut the total almost in half.

Its hard to give prices because there are so many choices. Some people may choose to spend alot of money on the rotating assembly others spend it on the top end.
what brands and what quality parts do you want?
how much does the shop you will be using charge for labor per hour?
Do you want to go 355 or 383?
how extreme of heads do you want? Aftermarket or stock casting?
stock rev range or do you want to rev higher?
do you want to go forged on the bottom end?
Do you want all of you engine accesories replaced while the motor is out?

There are tons of variables that will affect price. So it is very hard for anyone to give you a ballpark without knowing exactly what you want done.

Frankly I would discourage you from doing something like this. You should not be trying to modify a 12 year old car and daily drive it unless you know how to work on it yourself.

Once you know how to work on it yourself then get into modding it.

i agree with caprice unless you simply have more money than time. i dropped a little over 3 for my top end and 5 for the bottom. the bottom was basically 50/50 parts and labor. had the machine shop assemble the shortblock so that added a little bit. its really not hard to pull these motors if you have any tools and simple mechanical skill. after all you are only unbolting stuff. stay organized and clean then drop it out the bottom.

Well it's quite simply really. There's absolutely no way you are getting a premium long block for 1300.
