Default Diagnosis?

Okay I have a 94 lt1 camaro with a 95 vented opti mod, 355 forged shortblock, ported heads , ported intake, xfi 292, blah blah blah... 36 lbs injectors

stock fuel pump (112k on car)

so im driving down the road and punch on it, hit about 5 k and get a huge backfire. car dies, jump it off while rolling in forth gear, it goes to 2k and dies..

pull over, crank crank, she turns over, pull first spark plug, it gets spark.. let it cool down, crank again, it starts for a split second and dies.

get her home, fuel pressure is at 30 psi .. So me thinks (along with a few mechanic friends) i need a fuel pump.. would that most likely be the issue?

Are you sure you are not out of gas? Usually the pump just wont die all of the sudden. Most of the time there are warning signs like hard starting and running a little rough quite a while before it dies for good.

yes sounds a lot like a car starved for fuel, and pumps can go suddenly. happened to me. 30 psi at idle seems a little low. pull the vacuum hose, how high does it go? should hit around 45-51psi. with what you have done to the car it was time for a higher volume fuel pump a long time ago.

Positive, filled up about 12 hours before this happened... it had beenhaving a rough idle and misfiring but i thought the misfiring was due to wires being routed poorly by theguy that worked on my car.....

The guy that messed up my wires came over and re tested teh cars fuel pressure and it said 45 psi on his gauge

Check the fuel filter. I have never heard of one being clogged so bad the car wont start but hey, maybe you will get lucky. And since its not brand new it couldnt hurt anyways.

Another thought, where did you get gas? maybe you got some bad stuff with water in it or somthing?

Take the filter off and shake it out on a rag or paper towel, if there are chunks of black mixed with the gas you should replace it.

Gas was 93 octane at shell.. I only get gas from shell, exxon , or bp

Does the car lose power to everything when it shuts off? I'm having the same problem in my 94 Z28, with LE1 heads cam and bolt ons. Everything shuts off, all electrical and it will crank over, but will not start until I reset the computer. Then it runs fine, it also takes about 10min. before the car dies like that... Also I can smell fuel when I'm cranking it over, so I doubt it's my fuel filter or pump...

Come on guys, we need help!

Sounds like you have another issue than i do, im using tunercat what kind of pcm control do you have?

My issue is 99% chance of being opti and 1% of unknown.

Yeah, I highly doubt it's my opti, bc everytime I reset the computer it starts right back up. As for logging software, I can't get my laptop to read it, so I think I need a diff. cable with a USB built in.

Thanks,
Bill
