i use a three jaw puller and pull it off. if you use that get one with a hex head so you can use an impact on it. originally bought one with a small t handle and about killed myself pulling it off.

you have to get a longer smaller diameter bolt to push against. you can get a allen head for this if you wish. my puller (snap on) has a pointed tip that pushes against the snout which works amazing. in case you werent sure you have to take out the crank bolt to pull the hub

on some cases (I know not good, not doing it anymore) iv pulled the bolt out 4-5 threads to break where im pulley's lose in this case (I tryed with 1-2 threads but the crank has been heli-coiled because it was messed up when I got it) so we are not doing that number again! ill try and see if my little puller will fit in the crank bolts hole tomorrow

Why not just go get a Harmonic Balancer Installer/Remover from the parts store tomorrow (which is only 6-8hrs away now) and be done with it It's like $15 for one.

Well it doesn't use Jaws, it uses bolts. I wouldn't want to pull a Balancer off with a jaw puller, personally....

Aren't most balancers a quasi two-piece? The center hub portion where the pulleys bolt to and what goes on the crank, then a rubber ring (dampener I assume) and the outer part (the balancer portion I assume). Couldn't using a jaw puller, in a bad twist of fate, pull those apart if the hub portion is stuck on the crank shaft?

Have you checked with your local AutoZone, (O'Reilly's, Pep Boys, etc., etc.)? Locally they loan such tools free for nothing. You might want to show some good faith by picking up an air freshener or something.

unless i misunderstood the op the damper is off. the jaw puller is the easiest way to get the hub off. if the damper is still on then i just use the damper puller

If you haven't gotten the balancer off yet, put a metal bar through it to brace it against the engine so you can take the bolt off without turning over the engine. That's what I did. Then use the puller on the hub.

make sure after you pull the bolt out of the center you get a longer bolt to put in there you need a bolt in the center to run the puller against or you will be pulling on the balancer itself and it will never come off

Our balancers are just two pieces. The crank pulley and then the hub that is press fit onto the crank snout. No rubber seals or anything.

I used a 3 jaw puller on mine with no problems. For a spacer I just bought a cheapo 1/4 drive extension and it worked perfectly. I lucked out and didn't screw up the extension so I can even use it for its real purpose as well. Cost me a couple bucks at the local hardware store.

The extension can work. I tried that but wasn't able to get enough pressure on it because it was too thin. So I took a long thick bolt and drilled a small hole in the head for the puller to press into.

I use one of those pullers with a long 5/16 bolt to push on the crank after I take the center bolt out .

I've had the same problem as you. Tried everything to get the damn thing off and no go. I have one of those damper pullers and I have used my impact wrench on full reverse (the center bolt is out). I just don't get it...
