whats the avg 500rwhp build cost!!!
Just trying to gage what others are paying for their builds. Are yall going F/I or heads/cam. I'm hearing anywhere from 6k to 10k. We all know F/I gives the most bang for the buck. But also includeing the Trans build. Can 500rwhp be had for cheaper the 8k?

So lets say
1 procharger $5,500
2 cam kit $600
3 exhaust/headers $1,100
4 install and tuneing $1,500
5 trans build $1,500
Right now were at $10,200 The ole saying is true, ya wanna go fast better have cash!!!

intake 100
exhaust used 450
nitrous kit and mallory box 600
cam and springs as low as 500-id go with nsa stuff here so 800
racetronix kit 250
and tune 150
so a little under 2500 will get you 500hp reliably...
you said trany build so an auto...1400 for a build like me (many on her ehave the same guy and are beating on these trannies without any problems well into the 10's and some in the 9's)
a good stall 725 a cheap stall 450
so tranny will be baout 2000-2300
under 5k for a reliable 500hp car that should be capable of running into the 10's...most of those parts were new prices also...

Well if I'm making that much power honestly I'd either have delteq or ltcc instead of a msd opti. Your gonna want a better bottom end than stock for 500 rwhp. If you factor about 20% drivetrain loss through auto thats 625 at the motor and I wouldn't be running any stock bottom end with that kinda power. I've never heard of a h/c/i lt1 making over 600 hp. You will need a power adder of some sort whether its nitrous or FI. so lets see your gonna need 2k for a rear, 2k for a tranny, 500 for driveshaft, probably 2k or so in suspension to be able to hook up, gonna need sticky tires for sure, ok now to the motor....I'm not sure on the price of a procharger or STS but I'm sure thats 3k+ Then decent heads will be 2k and cam w/ rockers pushrods etc is another 1k, your also gonna want either a single plane intake or custom sheet metal intake. So I would put a 500 rwhp build more in the 15k range

Since when does a tune cost 150? Mail order? You have to be retardedly insane to rely on a mail order tune w/ 500rwhp.

500rwhp? If so, that kind of makes me giggle. You'd think if people could get a reliable 500rwhp for that kind of money we'd be seeing all KINDS of 500rwhp cars w/ ET's to back it up. Not so much...

Thats what I was thinking.A old schooler told me.
Fast and cheap= not reliable

probably $1K for a good cam and supporting valve train
$1500 for a forged 383 ratating assembly
exhaust and headers you could do budget for $600
head work to support mods $1K from a local machine shop
$1K for a decent th350
$11,600 would be more realistic. that's not counting rearend. And taking into account that you do all the work yourself. and not factoring in machine work.

Take into account all the lil things, like boost gages, fule psi gages, plugwires. The small stuff will kill ya.Timeing chain ect. While ya got the front of the motor riped off, water pump.Coolant, oil, plugs ect.

I sprayed my H/C stock short block with 3 bottles a week for over 2 years before I built the stroker motor.
But back to the original topic.....500whp will not be cheap, whether you choose Nitrous, FI, or NA.

I don't think 500HP under 5K is possible. Not if you use the right parts. Some people do push the stock crank/rods to 500HP using ARP bolts and such, Either way FI or spray you're going to want to yank the stock pistons out for sure. But really, if your going to invest allot of money into you car why not drop a it more and know you have parts that can take whatever you throw at it? For 500HP, you don't need top of the line parts. Good quality crank/rods/pistons/rings/bearing should be around or under $2000.
As already stated it has allot to do with all the other little things/BS you need to replace that aint cheap on the LT1s. Couple hundred for all the gaskets, couple more for timing chain, lifters, injectors, then there is the "might as well put on" new opti, water pump, lifters, upgrade oil pan ect ect..... These are the things everyone runs into with their builds if they don't plan out their budget.

These kind of threads make me laugh a bit..No offense to the OP, but I think its better to pick an ET/MPH goal and shoot for that...dyno numbers can be so easily manipulated and more often the dyno numbers and the trap speeds don't add up...
Having said that, 500rwhp is achievable N/A usually with a good SR and properly ported heads with a stout bottom end to handle the rpms (there's a thread in this section of an AI SR set up making 500rwhp on pump gas...)...But then you have to factor in M6 or A4 for driveline losses etc, etc...I've seen guys with 500 rwhp trapping 125 mph and I only make 375 rwhp and trap 121..Don't get too bogged down in the number...dyno hp is not nearly as impressive as track numbers, imho...
