Which headers for 1995 Z28 Auto ?
Trying to decide between the AS&M and Edelbrock 68942.
AS&M: http://www.azspeed-marine.com/as19lt1flotu.html
Edel: http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...ders_tes.shtml
Edelbrock 68942 at Summit for $469.95 (ceramic coated).
AS&M from AS&M for $787.00 (HPC coated, in and out).
The AS&Ms are a bit thicker (14g vs 16g for Edel)
and AS&M primaries are 1 3/4 (vs 1 5/8 in Edel).
(Target for car: 400-450 HP and maintain emissions)

The AS&M and Edelbrocks are shorty/mid-length with a y-pipe to connect to the existing cat under the passenger side and have all the emissions connections, including O2s.
Unless, of course, I've misinterpreted how the Kooks are constructed.
OK, I just hung up with Kooks - the O2 bungs are in the collectors and they do offer a y-pipe with built-in high-flow cats that eventually bolt to the stock exhaust downstream. The tech did not recommend getting these coated - he said to be sure they fit before deciding to get them coated. All I've read bout the AS&M, in contrast, is they bolt in with minimal effort and fit like a glove. The comment made from the Kooks tech concerns me just a little - although I do understand that there is a possibility that a set may not fit just perfect.

Am I going to gain that much more HP/torque from the Kooks than the AS&M? What other advantages am I getting with the Kooks for the additional $750 over the AS&M (plus the AS&M are HPC coated inside/out)? The stainless? The fact they are true long-tube headers?
Something else I'd have to research on the Kooks is the clearance under the car.

I think the Edelbrocks you're looking at, are the same headers that I have on my car. I don't really like them all that much. The connections suck on them. I have leaks at both header/y-pipe connections and they're impossible to get to, to tighten them. They've also got some rust on them, despite being coated. I plan on doing away with them sometime soon and getting some Pacesetter LT's and true duals.

Wait about a month and buy the new LPP stainless longtubes that will be coming out, and spend just a few extra $$$'s and have a local exhaust shop weld some AIR bungs into them to make them emissions legal.
They're modeled after the Kooks, and are (rumored) to be priced around $700 for the complete headers/y-pipe package.

I've had AS&M and they were junk. They wouldn't even bolt on to the head because they were manufactured wrong and the company didn't want to hear it. They told me that there was something wrong with my car.
On the other hand, I've had BBK shorties and they were excellent. Fit, finish, and performance gains were top notch.

This is probably the "shortest Poll with a decision".
And I have to say, y'all can spend others people money really easy
I ordered the Kooks 1 3/4 to 3" headers and the Kooks dual-cat/y-pipe (plus O2 sensor extensions).
It's more than I anticipated spending on headers, but I'm sure it will be worth it. Plus, considering they're 304 stainless, true long-tubes, and include 2 high-flow cats and y, make it worth it.
I found a thread here: {http://www.camaroz28.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=75} (that link starts on page 2, where the pics start), show the headers/etc and on page 4, there are photos of the final installation. There's a lot of other good information (bolts, gasket, sockets, etc) in that thread to help prepare me.
I've since shipped my borked 4L60E tranny (core) back to FLT (Finish Line) - my new 4L60E FLT tranny is currently getting painted, so I think I will install the headers before installing the new tranny.
Thanks for all the header hints and suggestions!!
