Default Header swap.

Iam doing a header swap on my 94 Z28 and i've got the driver side manifold off, an every bolt to the passenger side but one. Its the last one, closest to the firewall. Problem is i think i've might have stripped the bolt abit, an ive been having a great deal of problems trying to get it off.

Anyone with experience, help or some opinions would be great!

Oh man. They make special sockets for striped bolts. But other than that, I guess I would say start charging the drill but IDK.

Now that I think of it your right. Back by the firewall is way to tight to fit anything. IF its not complete striped you can do what I did when it happened to me, get a TINY bit smaller socket and smash it onto the bolt. Worked for me.

Either that or grind the bolt's head off completely and once you get the
current headers off, then you can remove the "stud" that is left behind.

Looks like you gotta do either the jam fit socket or buy the 15 dollar special socket. Your choice.

Cut it off with just the blade from a hacksaw using your hand. Once it's off use the stud technique or if you have a welder handy tack a head of a bolt that fits tight into a socket onto it. Most people don't have a welder handy but it's an idea....

Use a "dremel" grinder from under the car. Drop the y-pipe and the starter
and you should have no problem using a dremel to grind the head off.

I saw these cool *** things just now on tv. Theyre called Grabit. It claims if you break the head of a bolt off, it can still get it off in 10 seconds or less. LOL seems to work. Only 20 bills w/ a lifetime guarentee!

I took the y-pipe all the way out and got at it from the bottom w/ the help of my buddy spotting me from up top. My arms were just skinny enough to get in there. Try soaking it w/ a good lube overnight. Did you do that prior to starting "the job"? What helped me was being in the right location for each bolt. Leaverage is your friend during this job. Good luck!
