Default got a question for yall need opinions

Ok I am about to start doing some of the more major mods coming up in the next two months like a heads and cam as well as a super or turbo charger. but that will leave me without a car for some time and I have honestly been looking into a beater car / fun toy. I was also looking to get something I can sell for what I have into it or more. body work I can do as well as paint work. apolstery my mom is excellent at. so heres the major question and need information and opinions. I am looking at a H.O 5.0 mustang fox body with a new auto tranny and a shift kit. I am unsure as to any other mods or the year as of now but it is a friends family friend who is selling it. It is a dirt cheap car that will need paint. do you think that for under 1000 that it is a good dd?

depends what shape the motor is in and all that. Everyone I know has them leaking oil and all that crap. Good to see the trans is new the AOD's seem to be pretty shitty. Fox bodys are fun cars I was planning on getting on as a DD but never did.

5 hos aren't a bad choice for a beater car, they can handle a lot of abuse in stock form, but don't expect to save any money on gas. And auto mustangs are noticeably slower than standard stangs, so just keep that in mind

edit: What year?

I honestly couldnt tell you the year I was told the motor runs realy strong and I am not looking at this car for performance or gas mileage just as a car to beat on and not have to worry about as much as the z28. I have been told by a few friends that love mustangs that the ho 5.os from 86-91 has forged pistons or something like that any truth to this?

should have a strong rear, think 8.8 inch, not sure how much abuse the tranny will take, but I don't see it having a problem unless you mod the car to power numbers upward of 290-300 rwhp

well the stangs gonna run me less than $1000 and its a friends family friend so I dont think hell rip me because he offered it to my friend first but he doesnt have the money to buy it at the moment. but I agree a car with optional oil changes would be cool but the stang will prob be goin 4000 miles before an oil change unlike the z wich gets them every 2500.

I don't find fox body's in stock form any fun. My cousin had one and broke the trans under stock power. Got beat by a stock focus. It was just gutless. Maybe he just got a bad one, they can be nice and very quick. I guess if its cheap enough get it. You could probably resale it for twice as much if you get it cheap enough.

If your gonna fix it and sell it again make sure you don't go crazy money wise. I had a budy who got a mustang cheap to fix and sell but he put so much cash in to it that I think he broke even but just barely. The expirience you get from working on cars is always gonna make you smarter and better at working on them but for me, if I'm gonna put time into something I wanna keep it.
You need a daily driver so I say buy it, it will be fun to beat on, and you say you can do body work, perfect hope it all goes to plan.

well I picked it up it was 400 and no rust at all I need a tranny and paint and this ****** will be on the road. the only question now is pick up a auto tranny for 150 or get a parts car that has everything for a 5 speed swap for 250?
