How much boost can speed density handle?
speed density is really best for boost,no restriction(MAF) and if you really think about it when booost is applied it generally puts the MAF into maximun overdrive.....at this point the MAF becomes useless.. be sure to get a chip burned for larger injectors 42lb min.
The stock MAP sensor cannot read any boost. It is a 1-bar sensor, which means it can only measure up to atmospheric pressure. I've replaced my MAP with a 3 bar, along with a voltage doubler circuit, effectively making it a 1.5 bar sensor, which allows the PCM to measure about 7 lbs of boost. After some custom tuning by myself, it is running great in speed density mode.
You should still be able to use the stock hardware/PCM for running mild boost, you will just need to add fuel through the power enrichment (PE) tables. These tables allow you to add fuel based on engine rpm alone when in WOT mode. It should be possible to make the tune safe by using this method, as long as your fuel system can support the additional fuel demands.

I'm using a 2 bar map ( GM part used in the Grand National ) and PCM4LESS ( Alvin ) tuned it.
The tune will support more, but so far I've seen 9lbs of boost and the tune stays dead on. Eventually the P600B will be replaced with a bigger unit! Car drives perfectly, smooth as stock during around town driving, tire fryer under boost!
