Default Throttle Body Q

Is there a point of upgrading my TB? looking at a 58mm holley or do i just take the dremel to the inside? LT1's pretty much stock.

Cheers
Mike

If you search this topic has been covered many times and will give you the answers you need. But I will just tell you that its pretty much a waste of money on a bolt-on car. The stock unit is good up to about 450hp so unless you have a heads/cam car or the like its really not needed. I believe you may lose a tad of torque in the low rpm's if you say bolted up a 58mm on your car the way it is now. I would say one nice thing about upgrading is the improved throttle responce feel. If the car is automatic the computer will have to be tuned. If you take a dremel to the inside you will still have the stock diameter blades so I dont know if that would do much of anything. On ebay you can get ported stockers however my advise is to spend the money elsewhere.

Don't worry about getting an aftermarket tb. It's not worth the money. Just get an air foil for it and port the opennings. Don't actually bore it out with a dremel though, and make the holes a bigger diameter. Because, you'll never get it perfect. You'd have to use something more accurate for boring it out and get bigger butterfly plates for it. Here's a guide to porting a stock tb. https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost....6&postcount=22 . It's showing an LS1 tb, but, the steps are the same. I plan on doing it sometime soon, whenever my extra tb gets here.

been said and done..its a waste of money no matter how much power you make.. i can see the monoblade tb's being helpful but the little bit of millimeters larger that these afterarket ones are just doesnt give you anything close, as in power wise, for the buck

I bought my car with a BBK throttle body on it, not sure what size it is, and it only has intake/exhaust. stock manifolds. I have no comparison of before/after, so I guess it will just stay on the car.

58 TB doesn't do much with a stock motor. I was told that they are best with a stroker. I ran one for years with a head/cam combo and I really don't believe it helped me any. By the way, you wouln't need a tune with the 58, the car would run fine.

My car also came with a BBK 58mm throttle body installed. I sold mine and used the cash to pay for parts that would actually help the car.

Hmm. That would help pay for headers. Did you notice anything at all for performance when you took it off?

The throttle tip in is not quite as responsive but it pulls the same at wot. I was able to lower the line pressure back to normal as well. For some reason with the bigger throttle body it shifted really sad with the stock trans line pressure.

If the car is an A4 it MUST be tuned. If M6 it does not.

You could tell a difference in shifting?

Because you were getting more air/power at the same throttle position than before. 25% throttle on a stocker is LESS opening than 25% on a bigger unit.

Friend has a completely stock formula, except the kid before him had a 58MM on it. Idled like **** w.o a tune. We threw a stocker back on and it smoothed right out. And didnt lose any power either,
