Picked up my new 94 z28
hey guys i just bought a z28 and picked it up earlier today. the guy drove from alabama to texas to take it to me.
however he never mentioned till he signed the title over to me that it has a hard time starting up when its a cold start up.. and hes right, itll crank for about 5-7 seconds then finally turn over.. he told me that it is the fuel filter??? ($7 part at autozone..)
anyone have any experience with this? im kinda upset because he didnt tell me till he drove 9 hours to sign the title over. anyway its a pretty car just hard starter..
please help anyone.. and im sorry if its a dumb question, just new with lt1s and i want to take care of my cars, thanks guys.

Does it sound like this startup? http://youtube.com/watch?v=PYdd_eYKzmY
That's my car, I still haven't fixed it. I can turn the key over like 10 times and it will start right up. Points toward a fuel tank check valve, leaky injectors, or bad fuel pressure regulator. I hope it have it fixed this summer however

could be the one-way check valve in the fuel pump. try priming the fuel pump (turn the ign key to run then off a few times) and then try to crank it... see what happens

ok i tried priming it on a cold start and it didnt seem to do much, i primed it bout 10 times i figured that was enough.. but i still think its something in the fuel system because it has no trouble cranking just turning over..

you may need to replace the fuel pump itself. I had the same issue with my LT1 and it was hard to start cold. When the car was warmed up it seemed to start a lot better.Once I replaced the fuel pump problem solved.
Of course it was the last thing I replaced, since I already did the fuel filter, wires, coil, pcv valve. Hate to say it but its a process of eliminate with these cars to get to the root problem.

i had this problem on my old 94 formula. if you have a fuel pressure gauge, you should check it. My car, id hook up the pressure gauge.. and prime the pump. it would have like 45 psi. then as soon as the pump turned off, it would shoot down to 0PSI in a few seconds.
Since it bled back SO SO fast, i KNEW it was the one-way check valve in the fuel pump. just to make sure, i disconnected the fuel line coming out of the fuel pump, before the fuel filter. Checked the pressure there, same thing happened. went to 45 psi when the fuel pump was running... then shot to 0 after the pump turned off.
if the FPR is leaking, it would bleed back slowly. but, I eliminated the FPR by connecting the gauge right after the pump.
Good Luck if u can do those tests, itll help you a lot
