Electric Water Pump... Need some help

Default Electric Water Pump... Need some help

I was wondering what it would take to change out the water pump to an electric water pump.. is it as simple as just taking out the drive and installing the new electric pump or is it far more involved... and is it worth the time

When i installed mine I left the gear behind the timing cover in and just removed the water pump driver shaft. Some people remove the timing cover and plug or weld it shut, but thats not nessecary. You need to put a freeze plug that usually comes with the e-water pump into the back side of water pump housing. I had to use a die grinder to clearance the water pump housing to fit the new pump. I would consider this job easy especially if you've removed the water pump once already.

It's actually fairly simple. Basically, you:
* remove water pump
* remove inspection cover
* press out impeller and bearings
* install freeze plug
* re-install water pump housing
* install electric pump
* trim fan shroud
* hook up electrical connections

That's it. I suggest wiring up a safety block with LED and/or Piezo buzzer
to warn you if the ground goes bad or the pump fails.

yup x2..it was a fairly simple job..and well worth the time IMO. I did the pulleys at the same time.

I had my water pump fail on me while on a cruise.
Yep..... That sucked. Car ended up being stolen by the tow truck driver AAA sent to.


Anyways I wired in parallel with the water pump circuit a bright *** led right into my a pillar I also put in a second circuit in case the fuse blows with a switch to my dash so I dont even have to pull over if the light goes out and its not a major issue
