stock vented Opti will go for hundreds of thousands of miles with the occasional swapping of the vent hose. Unless you are going for a 7000+ RPM screamer, stick with what works.

Stick with AC Delco... You'll be happy you did.

And as I mentioned in the other Opti thread, make sure it's a real GM and not a remanufactured Declo like the many on eBay. Gmpartsdirect should be a nice bit cheaper than the dealer. The LT1 faq stickied has a Parts Number catalog and then just grab the right year(very important) Opti part number.

Yea, you mentioned the price in the other thread. I think yours might either be an actual Delco remmy or a new Delco. The $150 ones are the China remmys.

My LT1 has 88K miles on it and I haven't had a problem with the opti so far. I have the motor broken down now and I'm wondering if I should replace it or let it be? I'm putting a cam, springs and headers on it and I'm already over my budget so if I don't have to replace it I would rather not. But on the flipside, it's going to be much cheaper and easier for me to do it now rather than later.

I read that the 95's have the vented opti, but how can you tell?

I found an Accel Ultra Optispark II for $270 bucks; anyone have any experience with those? I was thinking about getting that one if I replace the factory one.

The vented optis have a vacuum hose coming off the bottom of the distributor, around the 5:30 (clock)position.

At 88K miles, I'd suggest a new distributor cap....

Cool, thanks, mine is vented.

Anyone know about the ACCEL opti or suggest a good one for a relatively good price?

I bought the Accel Ultra II model for the same price. I put it in and have about 1k miles on it, no probs yet, but we'll see. If I have to replace it again I'm going with the AC Delco unit though.

This is my 3rd opti, don't wanna EVER have to do the job again.
