back fire then no run on new cam

wouldnt start at first, turned out to be a bad opti, replaced with a used one. now it runs for a little while then it hiccups a couple of times then dies and wont run for very long after that. it already blew my cats all over the driveway with all the back firing. no one i know can figure it out. when it does run good for those first couple of seconds it runs rich as hell. it smells like pure gas. if i unplug the battery and plug it back in it will run fine for a little while but it will go right back to the way it was. it is already tuned for boltons by trifecta performance. i believe that tune it messing with it. any input would be nice

smells like gas? check for no ignition. that could be why its running rich. had that problem when i installed my headers, burned two wires and grounded them out. caused serious misfire when warmed but would run fine when cold.

When I built my new motor, the engine coolant temp sensor was plugged in good and it BLACK SMOKED it was so rich. Check that.

Computer thought it was 38 degrees BELOW ZERO, so it was dumping an INSANE amount of fuel!

I'm talking about idling, not running for a few seconds and dying
Look at the video from the guy with the GM847 on stock PCM. It idles really nice (lopy but idles) and even revs. I think he said he could drive it as well.
Dur @ .050 = 232/242*
Lift with 1.5's = .539/.558"
Lift with 1.6's = .575/.595"
LSA = 112*
I tried searching for the vid, but nothing

Since you have a 94 you have the splined opti drive right?Well i fried my motor once cuz that splined shaft is only supposed to go in one way, but mine went in any way. The filled in spot between the splines didnt stop it from going in wrong. So my timing was off like 1 tooth i think causing it to barely run and burning up my pistons when my dumbass took it on a drive with it runnin shitty. So in short, i know its a pain in the ***, but i would consider checkin that.

and just double check your plug wires are on the correct spot on your opti... just something stupid but i did it when i changed my cam... just didnt have the plug wires in the right place.

dude i feel your pain on the not running. i finally got my bird back from the shop after giving up on figuring out why it was misfiring myself. $1k later she is running smooth. and guess what it was the damn opti. i would check plugs and wires. might be a bad o2sensor reading that the car is running to lean and is pumping more gas in than it should.
