Default Finally figured out what happened at the LTx Shootout

For those of you that knew I hurt my car at the LTx Shootout, I have finally got the time to tear it apart.

For those that didn't know anything, to put it short and sweet, I ended up with lots of water in the oil before the first round of eliminations. I thought it was just a headgasket had blown. Well I got the heads off of it and both headgaskets are fine. Here is what I found after a second look.

Look just above the piston on the cylinder wall.

I don't know what I'm going to do at this point, I have several different options. I just gotta weigh them all out. :???:

At least I know I can go 9-second speeds (135 mph) non-intercooled and on 91 octane and not hurt the pistons or headgaskets.

Damn Josh!

That is One of the reasons I am running a short pour. The next time it is out I am going to top it off another inch

Might try a good sleeve and then pour it to the plugs or bottom of the water pump returns.

I have a spare LT1 laying around if you need

Wonder if this was just a fluke factory flaw. Either way, use it as an oportunity to go farther.

It only has about 1000 miles, 12 or so dyno pulls, and 3 track passes.

That's what I'm wondering... it's only .030" over, so it 'should' have been fine. I guess not.

Something doesnt seem right then, there shouldnt be enough wear on that block to do that.

You sonic check it before the machine shop?

Thats the first one I have ever seen do that. Out of all the engines I have abused over the years I never cracked a cylinder. Get another block and start over.

No, unfortunately I bought the shortblock already completed. I sold the rotating assembly to the guy who had it built, then he came upon hard times and I bought it assembled, never run.

Oh yea, I remember you telling me about that at dinner.

Well if you can salvage your crank and rods you shouldt be in to much for a new short
