I had the hot cam kit in my 97 formula 6spd with all the bolt ons and ed wright tuning car turned 12.40 at 111 on motor and 11.2 @120+ on spray stock clutch and drag radials leaving at 2200 rpms shifting at 6100. Youll just need to get used to givin her alittle more gas in the low end, otherwise good street kit.
It's a perfect cam for someone looking for a bit more performance in their daily that don't want to go over-kill. Gas economy with it is great, and sounds pretty damn nice with the right timing settings. It's also good enough to get folks into the 11's with full suspension and slightly ported heads (my friend's M6 with ported heads, hotcam, 1.6rr's, 3.42 gears, and bolt ons went 11.8 with STOCK suspension) come on now, unless youre looking into building a crazy track car, the hotcam is enough to meet most people's needs.
I think the cam used in the LT4 was actually smaller than the LT4 Hotcam that they sell in the kit. Either way it's not a junk cam by any means for what it is.
the hott cam was NOT installed from the factory or slp....the cam for the lt4 was almost the same as the lt1 cam except for the lobe sep. lt4 330hp cam was 115 lobe sep...and cthe lt4s came with 1.6 rockers..
the upgrade to 7/16 studs is to help stop stud flex in return can get a lil more HP andTQ from this mod especially on the upper RPM level.

Another angle to look at this fron is how many of the parts can you reuse as you mod further? The rockers are 3/8" stud and limited to like .550 lift. meaning soon as you decide you want to do heads and cam you will be buying another set of rockers.
You may say at the moment you don't want to go that far but one day you will and it is cheaper to buy things once. Most of us eventually learn that doing things cheaply is rarely least expensive in the longrun.
I am of the opinion the LT4 springs are insufficient, if not today, they will be a year down the road once they are broken in and begin to wear. The rockers are not up to the task of the average cam sold with a heads and cam package. So even if you decide to use that cam I would urge you to no do the whole kit. Right off the bat buy 7/16" studs and non-sa rockers with a set of guideplates and you will never have to buy those parts again.

Dang guys, complaining about ONLY getting 70hp from a stupid cam. On Modular Ford engines, improved heads, cams, and intake, with supporting mods, barely gets you 70hp.
Thats why I'm into camaros now! Cheaper alternative!
