Even if the opti is kept, I think just having the LS PCM is a nice bit to have.

The early LT1 guys would need a new timing cover, crank sensor, vented opti, etc.
I plan on just getting the Megasquirt II Plug and Play kit and being done with the early LT1 PCM. It was like $1,400 last time I checked, which is quite a bit less then a full FAST setup. I understand that is a bit much to spend for little benefit to a street car, but for an early LT1 to convert to an LS1 PCM and coil packs would not be cheap at all anyway.
The opti does not bother me, but the limitations of the stock PCM do...not to mention its a PITA finding someone local good at tuning SD LT1s(Thanks again Jim Smith!). An aftermarket engine management system can be tuned by just about any performance shop with a dyno and some experience.
The LS1 conversion is a novel setup no doubt, but I do not think it is worth it for the 92-94 guys.

One bit I liked was the guy using the crab cap distributor, since I had mentioned doing just that before, but was completely shot down on the idea

EFI Connection is still working on this. Last week we had our gen1 SBC driven 300 miles round trip to be tuned on a Dynojet. RamJet 350, electronic throttle, coil per cylinder, LS1 PCM.
The results were smooth hp/tq curves. No ignition problems. Here are the numbers.

A 4L60E resolved the frustrating shift points of the 700R4.
