Default lt1 - ls1 mpg differneces and why?

was just curious why does the ls1 get such better mpg than our lt1's?
Is it he heads or is it the tuning or something else?

For starters the LS1 has a lighter aluminum block making the entire car lighter. Takes less energy to move the lighter car.

Second the LS1 has more efficient movement of air through the motor which lesser drag and resistance.

Third is GM has found other ways to stretch the efficiency of the LS1 compared to the LT1.

Yea I know the ls1 has better airflow. But you could get pretty close to that with bolt ons and re working the heads couldn't you? But from what I've heard our engines can't get to the ls1's mpg

Not true, the LS1 cars actually weigh about the same despite the lighter engine, due to other changes throughout the car.

It's just a more efficient system overall. More efficient engine, more efficient engine management system, better ignition system, etc

I never thought that the LS1 got that much better fuel economy than the LT-1. If you look at hte EPA numbers they were only rated 1-2mpg higher depending on the year. Back a long time ago when I only had bolt-ons I remember getting upper 20s regularly and maybe even 30 mpg once on a hwy trip. But the general answer, that has already been stated, is that the LS1 is just a more efficient design.

I have seen about a 2-6mpg difference. They are a much more efficient engine for sure.

2mpg and up is what seems typical to me as well. With a 16 gallon tank that extra 2mpg will get you 32 miles farther. That's quite an improvement.

in my usual college commute, i used to get 19-21 mpg with my bolt on lt1, m6. with my stock ls1, m6 with ported tb and a lid, i get 23-24 mpg. this is commute with plenty of stops and 60 mph max. shows you the difference is a non-"all highway" setting.

So if thats the case, LS1 is for those into the bug eyed catfish looking front ends. Your statement is ridiculous. Sniff sniff, whats that smell

Flamesuit on. Here comes another LS1 vs. LT1 pissing match.

I would think there is a lot to be said about 23* heads vs 15* heads.
If you look at a GEN3 head intake port, the injector sprays right on top of the valve.

LOLing at the catfish post! I'm keeping my options open. I found a clean lower mileage LT1 that I may pick up just cause its a screaming value. I'd put an STS Turbo kit on without hesitation.
