Unhappy MSD Coil Arcing? (Videos)

Okay my car goes from 600 rpm to 1000 rpm while at a stop and a load on the motor and also cruising with a load the car misses. I looked around for arcing off all the wires and couldnt see anything but i did see the Coil Arcing not off the wire though but the coil itself. I just installed a MSD blaster coil. has any one had this problem? what can i do to stop this?

well i found out what causes this. if you dont have the a all around good ignition system meaning good plugs, wires and distributor then the coil cannot get ride of the power and it is shot out of the side of the coil which causes the car to run funny and missfire.

you should just go back to the stock coil. that will end up killing the opti much quicker. did it to mine.

so are our ignition systems pretty good. cause i mean..i've seen people with with msd optis and now msd coils with problems. most people end up going back to a stock ac delco opti and coil.

also with some research of the MSD tech website it seemed like a lot of people have had this problem not just with LT1's but with other vehicles also.

mount the coil to something plastic or rubber and your car will idle much smoother

btw your problem is a lazy o2 sensor! id put money on it

My T/A did the same thing, swapped to an AC Delco unit and problem solved. My current project 94Z has the same problem, but its got other ignition issues as well.

I also would be willing to bet its O2s, how does the car run on a cold startup? Fine?

Once it gets warm, it misses ect.. right?

I see the coil arcing though too, could be a defective coil. Try mounting it to rubber rather than metal and see how it does as someone described above. I have an MSD coil and its fine, never been a problem. Never seen it arc like that anyways.

the car runs fine when its cold but as soon as it gets to its to 180 degrees or higher it starts to miss and run all rough especially when i put a load on the engine.

when the car is just running i can still see the coil constantly arcing? maybe i should replace the O2s. i just ordered better wires, and new TR55 spark plugs. I dont want to put the stock Coil back in because i like the MSD the car seemed to have more power when i wasnt having this problem.

well when i took off the coil i made sure i cleaned up the metal with a wire wheel so that way it had good ground. I never had this problem before with the stock coil.

I had the MSD coil in for 4 weeks now and it just started doing this a week ago?

How would the O2s affect the coil?

I would log the o2's with software before blindly changing them. (unless they are old and you suspect that they need to be changed anyway)
