Default Question for you guys

I 've haven't seen this yet and I've worked on a few cars.

I'm working on a 1999 camaro and it has a spec 5 clutch in it with an ls6 motor. Okay everything worked fine for 25 miles and his motor blew up. So he fixed the motor and put everything back in it just like it was now the car won't move at all until the clutch is all the way out and you start revving it then it will barely start to move. Now I have the car, and here is what I have found. The slave is bottoming out on the pressure plate about .250'' 1/4 inch when I bolt the trans up so the clutch is disengaged before the car even starts. The car will not hold it self just sitting in gear you can roll it. What do I do he said everything worked fine before. Also the motor has the same crank and block in it. I basically need a smaller pressure plate distance from the fingers to the bellhousing ,but spec only makes a pressure plate that will give me another .150'' thats not enough has anyone ever ran into this before?

There is no air in the hydraulics either and no shim behind the slave it has a ram adjustable master too and a brand new gm salve.

Can you adjust the master so the petal is lower? I have never really heard of getting a thicker fly but I could be wrong. As clutches wear out the clutch gets higher, but since you just tore it down im guessing the clutch is in good shape.

Yeh everything is in great shape. I tried adjusting the master ,but it doesn't do anything ,but move the pedal, because the slave is bottoming out on the pressure plate. Basically its hard to explain ,but the fingers on the pressure plate are already pushing in a 1/4 inch when the trans is bolted up. If I take the slave off and bolt the tranny up it will stay in gear. So it needs a smaller slave ,but no one makes one that I know of or a smaller pressure plate.

I have been in contact with spec and they make one 150 thousands shorter ,but I need 250 thousands. I'm still open to any suggestions.

From the write-up, it sounds like you didn't do the actual motor repair? You said the crank and FW are the same, but are you positive? The LS6 had some variations with FWs, pilot bushings, etc. that could account for that 1/4"..

You are right I'm just going by what the ownwer was told when they did his motor we are wondering if it has a different crank in it.

Is there a different flywheel they make for different cranks?

I know in my car I was one of the first guys to try the mcleod soft lock and had somewhat of the same problem here ,but mine would not hold at high rpm it was fine driving around town. Mccleod gave me a full refund because they said they sent the wrong flywheel with my clutch. I have since put a jerico in my car.

I was wondering if I could get a different flywheel?

For anyone wanting to know what fixed this problem. It was a worn out clutch that he bought and the guy said it had 500 miles on it. It must have had few more than 500 on it I guess it was on the edge of going out when he drove in the those 25 miles.

I'm just glad we got it fixed with a new clutch.

Are you one of the Tosto brothers that ran on PINKS?? That was the most awesome episode ever. I wish the Firebird's clutch hadn't given way. I have a '67 project car in my garage.
