I was told by someone whose opinion I really value that the Pro 5.0 is the best shifter to buy. I'm ordering one next week. That's just one opinion. Good luck with your search.

Here's my take. I've tried em both and they are both quality shifters. The major difference is in the shaft. The ripper has a solid shaft. it's shaft is also slanted forward. The Pro 5.0 has a bolt on shaft that sits straight up. I went with the Pro 5.0 cause I liked the way it sat. the Ripper was too far forward for me, I ended up hitting my hand on the dash a little. The Pro 5.0 sat better and I knew I was gonna cut the shaft so if I screw it up I can just buy a new shaft, not a whole new shifter. The one downside of the Pro 5.0 is that since it is bolted in the bolts can back out and losen the shaft. This can easily be fixed with high strength loctite and tightening the sucker down hard. There are also replacement shafts for the pro 5.0 like the lou's short stick. Ask around and see if anyone local to you has these shifters so you can try them out and see what feels best for you.

I love my Ripper Shifter. Never thought of it being too far foward. Mine seems perfect to me.

THe ripper can be adjusted in three different positions to get the handle where you like it.

I just got my PRO 5.0 when I replaced my tranny and really love the way it shifts. I have had a couple different shifters, but never a ripper, sorry.

I've had both. They both feel the same during shifts. The handle on the Pro5.0 feels taller, but can easily be cut off at the threaded end up to an inch and a half. I cut an inch off my first Pro5.0 handle and it was perfect. The ripper in my '02 is a little closer to the radio, my hand almost touches it when I shift into 3rd.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but when you cut the Pro5.0 do you use a tap and die set to thread it again, or take it somewhere and have them do it? I would like to get one of the shifters, but I don't want to spend the extra money to get a LSS. - Pat

Just cut it off on a thread, then use a smooth file or sandpaper and clean up the edges. If you put a slight bevel on that edge, it works just fine. I used a hacksaw on mine.

The Pro5.0 threads are like 2" long, but you only need about 1/4" of threads to hold the **** on. Look at your factory shifter and see how little the threaded area is. Thats all that is required.

Easiest way, but may be considered ghetto, is to put a couple of bolts on before you cut the shaft down. After you make the cut you can unscrew the bolts and it should straighten the threads out.

Do these shifters smooth up the shifting, or simply shorten the throw? I like the throw of my stock shifter with a short stick, but I would really like a less "notchy" shifter, one that engages much more smoothly and easily.

My B&M 'clicks' into gear, hell almost 'snaps' in but I like it that way.
