Default Clutch Pedal Return Spring?

When I was changing my clutch master cylinder today, I took off the body panel under the steering column and a spring fell out broke in 3 pieces. Seems that it was a return spring of sorts for the clutch? Whats funny is that even with that gone, the clutch pedal feels the same... works fine, returns to position etc... Is this something I need to worry about replacing? Strange...

Spring isn't needed an it's like a $25 part from GM. Yeah a $25 spring...go figure. And it's even more of a pain in the *** getting it back into place. Dump the spring, and you'll be fine.

Tick recommends to take the spring off when installing their master cylinder. Screw that spring.

I found I had to adjust my clutch safety switch a bit with the spring gone else I couldn't get my cruise control to work (but at the same time I still couldn't get it started unless it was fully released). Seems as though the clutch safety switch is pressure or position sensitive.

Another note is that IF you don't run the spring, the switch can actually take a beating from the quick release of the clutch. The spring worked in a sense that it put a directional force opposite the pedal at a certain point to prevent the switch from taking a bad impact. That said, I'm not buying another spring. Waste of cash. The replacements are just of poor quality if not worse now.

$40!!! Geez! Riding your foot on the clutch is a bad thing anyway, you'll wear out the throwout bearing at the least. Forget about the spring.
