i need a clutch and i am low on cash and they appear to have good prices on them at RPMoutlet. i was looking at centerforce 12" clutches. i have heard good things about them. just have a few questions. whats the difference between the dual friction and the DFX? 12" disc fit stock flywheel? how do you centerforce owners like them? how many miles do they last? how bad do they shake the car? i have 400rwhp on motor and 500rwhp on spray...dual friction or DFX?

I am in the same boat as you..My POS Spec Stage One just gave out and i need a new clutch. I am looking into the dual friction clutch. My friend who has an 00 SS has had his DF clutch in his car for over two years and he has had no problems...no chatter...no slip.

Not much help being a C5 example with no hard dumps, but...
I put the 12" DF in my Z06, but sold it during the break-in miles, so I never got to beat on it. It had awesome street manners, and pedal/release was like stock LS6 w/stock hydraulics. Was behind a built LS6 with 233/239 TSP cam (kinda lumpy, needs approx 900 RPM idle). I could lug the thing from a stop, letting the pedal out gradually, almost killing the engine, and there was no shudder, shaking, jerking, or grabbing.
I will probably get this same Centerforce 12" DF to replace the SPEC II in my Formula (in anticipation for 450-470 RWHP LS1/LS2).
I would not waste my money on any GM clutch. I don't think their pressure plates are any good for serious street use or occassional race use.

Im also looking for a clutch have a post on here trying to make my mind up!
the cfdf12" is a good clutch from what I here, two of my freinds have the 11" and it holds 525hp on slicks.the 12" is bigger more clamping surface and supposed too hold up to nitrous use . THE DFX i have heard little about so far but its supposed to grab like a **** and hold big hp. but will from cf says that the df 12" is better for dd. I had a spec stage 2 it was junk only held up to 5k miles.

I had my stock flywheel resurfaced and re-used it. The instructions had a specific note for F-bodys, something about the throwout bearing or hydraulics or related subject matter (no big deal)?
I had heard some good things about the 11" DF, but then a few others looking into Centerforce clutches said they had heard of a few issues with the 11". However, the 12" DF came highly recommended, with a handful of 500-525 RWHP guys giving good reviews. Really didn't find anything negative against the 12", compared to the Texs, SPECs, LS7s, and a few other singles. Still, much of this is '3rd person' accounts, and my research ended about 3 months ago.
The DFX is their new 'thing', but I have seen the Centerforce rep (active on these forums) recommending the 12" DF for many LS1s, from bolt-on cars to nitrous/DR users. They are very insistent about proper break-in and a fresh/new flywheel surface.

I'm on the second one. I bought the car with 25,000 miles on the Centerforce. It failed after I put another 18,000 miles on it and made an 8.33 1/8th mile pass on street tires.
I just put a new one on and it holds like a sonufabitch. I tore the rear bearings a little and stripped teeth on the axle stub. Car put down 350/350.
I am more than satisfied. I was going to get a Monster, but I decided that paying 351$ was better than 700$+

I just installed the 12", did the drill & adjustable pedal mods. Centerforce recommends that you resurface and BALANCE THE STOCK FLYWHEEL to 0, but you can run a different flywheel. The shop called Centerforce and asked if they both had to be balanced and they said no as long as the flywheel is balanced to 0. 350 miles so far so it's too early to tell, there's noticeable chatter witch I hear goes away. Pedal is like stock, I really wanted the m'cloud rst but I got laid off a month ago so i had to cut the budget, I paid $335 shipped to my door so it's not too bad in the pocket's.

All your answers are here in threads you've been posting in, START READING.
The DF is a 12" disc, the DFX is an 11" Disc.
The shifting problems you heard about were on the old design, the 12" does not have this problem.
It is rated at 650 RWTQ although I do not personally believe this
You can use your stock flywheel if it is resurfaced AND BALANCED, balancing is a must.
Street manners were great on mine, customer service has been meh since it took a dump with under 1,000 miles on it. Its on its way to them for inspection and I have to wait to see what they say.

Im running a 12" DF and its a nice piece, very comfortable clutch and holds everything I throw at it. I had an 11" and it went out after 6000 miles. Centerforce customer service was great and they got me the 12'' as a replacement. I like this one but if it goes out any time soon Im going to say fvck it and throw a th400 in my car.
