Default who's missed 4th and went back to 2nd??

Just got a 6spd car this past week. I notice its not hard to do this. I was wondering how many others have this problem and if there is anything made to block this off or lock it out???

I have done it twice... Once when I was still getting familiar with car (probably in late 2005) .. (with the stock shifter)...and once in mid 2007 id say, when I was racing a golf turbo and I went from top of 3rd, back to 2nd...(with B&M ripper shifter)

later that year when I was doing a head/cam swap, I noticed a tiny nick on one of my pistons(forget what number it was, maybe #5??)

anyways, but I never had an issue from it(I guess I was lucky)

old pushrods looked straight, I doubt I bent a valve, because the car ran strong for about 5+ months, before It was torn back down... My drag times stayed consistent..

But its not hard to do...if there was a blockout at a certain speed, Id also be interested...

i would have to imagine its pretty hard on the valve springs and push rods especially... Really makes you feel dumb lol..

did it once by accident 1st year I had the car... I cant remember what my exact speed was but I was going over 100 coming up on my exit, ment to go from 5 to 4 but got 2nd somehow. I rev matched like usual and started to take my foot off the clutch when the RPMs jumped hard and I immediatly put it back to the floor. I imagine my clutch took the most abuse tho.. oops. I had the stock hurst back then btw

I have done this a few times also, mainly when I first got mine. I do agree its not hard to throw it back into 2nd.

I've had the T/A for 5 years, never missed a shift...until last week...

I put the 5.0 Power Tower in, took it out, hadn't even put the center console in because I wanted to make sure I liked it and the short stick I put on...

Pulled out of the neighborhood in first and took off, slammed 2nd, redlined, slammed 3rd..and chilled.

Thought wow this is a nice shifter, turned around to go home..thought I was done getting on it, doin about 45 dropped it into 2nd and burt off, slammed 3rd, slammed 4th, eased off the clutch, oh **** that's not 4th, put the clutch back in. Saw smoke coming in from under the car after hearing a loud pop..oh **** I blew my motor...

Pulled into my buddys, got it up on the jack and saw that oil was burning off the exhaust, and draining out pretty fast..I didn't see any wholes..

Come to find out I must have bumped the oil sending unit and it was on it's last leg, when I over reved that bitch broke off under oil pressure. Chad took the intake off real fast and we put the new sensor on...Car runs fine. Now I'm taking it slow going into 4th with the new shifter. I noticed you gotta put it where 6th used to be...just have to think instead of just pulling down like I did with the stocker..Key is I only let the clutch an inch off the ground before I pushed it back it, no tires chirping. Could have been worse..90 something MPH..

I've never done it, but i've been in the car when a buddy shifted 1-2 WOT then back into 1st instead of 3rd. luckily he noticed quickly after the car bumped the limiter. he freaked out right after thinking he probably bent a PR, but the car was fine. we'll see this summer as hopefully we're ripping it apart for a heads/cam build.

^^Nice story, glad you got it fixed and didn't F anything up.

I have gone back into first from second trying to hit third before and had tons of wheel hop and thought my tranny was coming up through the console but everything was ok.

I almost did. Was about to play with a vette and put it in 3rd to catch up, tried slamming it into 4th and just barely touched second, heard the rpm shoot up and stomped the clutch in as hard as I ever have. I thought I broke the whole car I was so ******* scared. Not a problem since though.

Im sure you know this, but I wanna verify it..

You do know, just because it bumped off the rev limiter (lets say 6200), doesnt mean that he didnt mechanically go 7000rpms, because he forced it in gear...

I did once, and 3rd to 2nd and that motor never ran right after that night.... I finally tore it apart today... and every piston on the passenger side had new valve reliefs.. haha... the lifters tapped to hell after also... that was probably the beginning of the end of that motor!!!

I've done it once in my 94 Gt with a T56 . I was going down the track and yanked it into 2nd instead of 4th . I thought I bent some pushrods but luckily nothing was damaged to the car .

I did the same thing in my 99 formula and had the same result, except I also bent pushrods, broke 2 rockers and valve springs to boot

hahahaha i hear that. Gosh when I first got my car I used to do that like it was my job. Throw it in first and see the tach skyrocket then instantly put in neutral. I am soo panicky on that shift even today (after new shifter, clutch, and soon to be MC)
