How to install a shifter?
Just got my new MGW shortshifter in the mail today for my t56 in my trans am. Replacing the stock hurst with it. Did a search on google and ls1tech and found no write-ups on the procedure for removing and installing a new one.
If you could give me some guidance on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Before installing it, read up on this thread I started from a while back. It goes over the noise problem and how I did an easy fix. Good luck and enjoy!

You'll love the shifter and beat yourself for not buying it sooner.

I just put my MGW in yesterday. The way i did the #6 boot is i cut out a small section on the top of the boot and slide it down over the main section of the shifter and had the mgw boot come up through it. looks a bit nicer too. You will definitely be happy with this shifter though

Yeah I installed it today, its really nice, makes the 2-3 shift alot easier. I have to say I'm getting alot of noise though, probably because of my #6 boot not fitting easily, oh well, I just crank the music anyway...

I put mine ALL the way over the gold/yellow part. It shifts perfectly fine and actually doesnt even rub the center console.

The shifter is DEAD quiet. In fact its probably quieter than the stock Hurst.

Yeah its the tranny im hearing, I have the #6 boot put on the shifter incorrectly I think comparing it to the pics you both posted up, I have it all the way up to the orange part past the rubber on the shifter so its probably not making a good seal

Well if you are hearing the tranny that much WITH the #6 boot on you might want to check the seal with the actual shifter. If that has backed off some you might want to put some more RTV on it and retighten down the shifter bolts.
Also make sure you got all your bolts for the boot are on as well. I missed one and it still let in A LOT of noise as well.

You HAVE to call MGW to order it. The website hasnt been updated in ages. They do sell it though. Took approx 4 minutes to order it over the phone and was here two days later.
