You are gonna be looking at a rare thread here. I did alot of research on teh strength of the input and output, as I was gonna "Viperize" my '56, but ended up with just using the input since I got it for free. BUT, before I got it, everyone said I was not gonna break the LS1 input. Output, I got a few response's in suggesting they would use the Viper output, but I have decided to take my chance's on teh stock LS1. I am gonna be in the 900 HP range.

Typically you start seeing the out put fail around 750 rwhp depending on the weight of the car , what type of clutch it has and what type of tire on the back . As for the input shaft , those same factors apply and the rating is very close to the same .

thanks. Looks like most start twisting the input shaft, and notice it on rebuild.

I've never seen a broken or twisted gm input shaft (the shaft itself), but plenty of Cobra ones. I've seen several broken output shafts however.

I've ran my own car making about 600 rwhp a few years ago launching it at 7k rpms with the stock input and output and never broke one. I ran it hard for about two years like that before switching to an auto.

Broke my output shaft yesterday. How much is this gonna cost me to fix??

Oh and I dont have anywhere near the power thats suggested to break one. I make about 425RWHP, and was on 275/50-15 MT DRs, S60 with 4.10s, Street twin clutch, dumped at 5k & never left the line

Drag radials are a bitch on manual transmissions. I snapped the main shaft in the Tremec I had in my coupe. The car was not even 3000 lbs, on the motor only and had a 275-60 MT drag radial.

update on this, I just had my DS off, and looked ay the outputshaft and its fine. What I meant to say was the slip yoke on the DS spines I heaerd would twist beofre anything else. I just have a stock replacment spicer, not harderned or anything. But has the bigger 1350 Ujoints, but the trans end is normal cast I belive. It was extra long with this sleeve for a Oring or somthing for a auto trans (truck probally) but I just cut that 3/4 end off and it sized fine.

Hmm... Well I havent taken mine to the track because I rely on it too much as a DD, but I was really hoping to see some times soon. But, from the sound of things all fingers will be pointing to my trans for the big snap: Ordering an S60 this weekend with a detroit locker, 4.10, chrome-moly yolk, strange driveshaft... rockin a monster level III clutch/tick master... stock rebuild t56 Close to stock weight.

On good tires would you chance it? Probably 370 rwhp or a little more.
