Default Is my clutch slipping? Symptoms inside...

I had a Spec Stage 1 installed about a year ago on my 98 TA.
(Finally got rid of the stock setup)
Lately, it seems that 3rd gear isn't as responsive.
I punch when I am in 3rd gear and while the rpms rev up, the car doesn't really have any get up and go till about 3-4 seconds later. Then the speed tends to catch up with the rpms while they are still high.
The other gears do it as well, but 3rd and 6th seems REALLY noticable.

Also, after I park the car and get out, I smell some kind of fumes but its not gasoline. I suspect the clutch.

I'm taking it into the shop tomorrow to have it looked at. The shop said they charge about $75 for clutch adjustments. I didnt know of such a thing.

Any suggessions? Tips? Advice?
Thanks in advance.

sounds like the clutch is slipping. If you put it in a high gear at a low speed & punch it it should hold. if it is rev'n like that & the car doesn't move the clutch is slipping.
There are no adjustments that can be made to your clutch set up.
So plan on a clutch soon.

Mine was doing the same thing. I just got done replacing it this past firday and it was toast. The new LS7 is feeling pretty damn good. Still not fully broken in, but i can definately tell the difference.

I have the same clutch in my car. It slips in 5th and 6th when being accellerated from a low RPM. Mine has been in since the summer with about 1K miles on it. Needless I'm getting ready to drop the tranny again soon.

well what the hell....is that normal for a clutch to go bad after 1 year? I am hardly rough on the clutch.
I may go the monster clutch route next IF I have to get a new clutch.

This seems to be the norm with some of these Spec clutches. I don't know what it is. Some Spec clutch owners, members have great service out of these clutches and some don't.

Spec-01 is a member on this site that chimes in the manual transmission section. He's not a sponsor here anymore, I don't know why that is either.

At this point whenever I get my clutch out, I'm going to post some pictures. Spec-01 is always glad to help.

The questionable ambiguity lingers on about Spec clutches... Is it the installers fault, bad clutch design, a bad batch of clutches. I mean all aftermarket clutches have thier issues, even OEM clutches do. It just so happens that Spec has sold alot clutches.

yeah but Dec 10, 1997 - feb 2008 with original clutch vs. 1 year with Spec Stage 1???
This makes no sense to me let alone warrant any kind of repeat customer buying for this product.
The mechanics who installed it will look at it tomorrow so we'll see.

I know how you feel, my original lasted for 8 years / 76,000 miles.

Wow it sounds like you had a bad day.

I myself don't know what clutch I'm going to use.

yeah....
I love the LS1 TA. Truly I do.
But manufacturers who make crap parts really **** me off.
And being from a media/public relations background, I'm telling all I know to stay away from Spec Stage 1.
Let's hope I can make it at least 1 week before the Monster Clutch makes it's way into my car....

I hope those Monster clutches turn out to be really good for all of us.

I might get one or just get a brand new LS1,LS6 GM clutch.

Right now you'll just have to take it real easy on your spec stage I.

Well, my Monster should be in the car tomorrow or wednesday... So we'll see how good they really are. I got great customer service from the boys over there at SNLPerformance, and their packages are reasonably priced and got here pretty damn quick.

Install problems seem to be blamed for a LOT of spec clutch problems... however I can't see how that many people can fubar an install that is pretty straight forward. I installed my clutch, never done it before, I don't have any problems.

If your factory hydraulics are at all similar to the T56 LS1 powered cars,
there is no adjustment.

These problematic clutch slipping days are coming to an end. I received just my LS7 clutch kit. It's going in after I finish the work on my tranny.
