Default What causes harder 3-4 shifts? oil??

After 5-6 runs at the strip, I've noticed that my 3-4th shifts have become harder than before; have to push clutch longer harder and grab the shifter is harder too to get the good 3-4 move...I've missed the move 2-3times and never missed before and it was easier before!!

Any input on this guys??

Was thinking maybe its time to change trans oil but looks $$$ to get it done and a bit complicated to do...

***UPDATE: Oil is changed and the nice shifts are back!! even on the N2O!!***

You pull the drain plug, put it back in, refill

Never changed it since I bought the car, so 15K miles. Dont know whats in there, but I'm putting Castrol Dexcon VI...

Its funny it cost me 30$ for the oil and at the local shop, they charge me 150$ to get it done!!!

Yah...that's why I want to open a shop. Cuz if they can get away with it...anyone can. Does it have the stock hydraulics in it?

I doubt it will change anything unless it had the wrong fluid in it to begin with. I would suggest using non synthetic Dextron/Mercon III in it and bleed the hydraulics. If the problem is still there, you will have to figure out if its the transmission or hydraulics. I would bet its the 3-4 shift keys and maybe syncros inside the unit.

...if it is a stock 3-4 fork....it would be bent

VERY common upgrade is steel 3-4 shift fork.

And the little tube filler adapter for the oil quarts was an absolute MUST!!! Even with this, you have to use some patience..

I have the same problem, tried to change the fluid but it dident help. Its aspecialy during hard driving such as freewayracing or on the dragstrip. What pieces can be bad exept for the syncrings.

Why bother trying to fill your trans through the fill hole on the side? Remove your shifter and fill it there. Takes all of ten minutes to remove it and it makes it a LOT easier. Try that next time.
