?, I purchased my car with a built T56 w/ Strait cut gears good or bad? car iN my sig, and it has a textralia clutch, it has no problems, makes some noise that all of my friends think is a s/c whine lol. Is tricky going into 6th but that could be just the Short throw (lou's Short Stick) needing adjusting. anyways i have no experience with "strait cut gears" so any input is helpful, THANX

The straight cut will certainly be noisier - dump truck noisy. They should be stronger IF they were properly made( material /heat treat /shot peen) It really dpends on who made'em .

sorry about the spelling error i was refering to "Straight cut" gears. the trans got built about a year ago and they do make noise but all the research i did on them was pretty much the same as the forum here, Some say that straight cut are awesome and stronger and others say they are just cheaper, BUT cheaper than what bc i can get a good t56 all day for 1000-1300 but a straight cut mod is like 4g's . . . . . Any thoughts?

Straight-cut gears are stronger when designed correctly. They can suffer from initial shock load if not in constant mesh, but your gears will be (adds to cost).. They are also more efficient (less power loss). The main reason they are not used is the noise.

Straight cut gears are stronger and do not create the same amount of force that helical cut gears create to push away from each other. They are very noisy though!!! Ideally, you want a helical cut gear with a reduced angle to reduce force but still run somewhat quiet. This was the theory behind the Muncie M22 4 speed.
