Default M6 carnage with pics, need parts.....

Update on Page 3

original thread

https://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-tr...aft-issue.html

Here's what I found

This is a GTO T56. This is the input shaft

This bearing, its rollers, and their cage are completely gone.

This is what was fished out of the trans, all teeth are accounted for, roller wheels, Im not sure, cage is accounted for.

Where can I buy the input shaft with bearing, and the rear side bearing that disentigrated?

How do I get the race off the mainshaft?

thanks

Getting the race off can be a pain in the ***... when i rebuilt mine, i tried heating it. when that didn't work i resorted to cutting it off. When they are assembled, moisture can get caught and rust making it impossible to get off.

I have had the exact same problem with 10 bolt carrier bearings. I have fine tuned cutting them off with a Dremel. This shouldnt be so hard.........

The race can be removed with a bearing puller and a press. The parts you need are available from any of the sponsors on the forum. The GTO is a M12 and doesn't interchange with F-body trans parts. Just a FYI.

Mine wouldn't come off with a press...

the tranny wasn't dis-assmblied right. the input shaft should have been one of the last parts removed. i would look closely at the endplay and completely disassembly the tranny and see if that metal damaged anything else before ordering parts.

The way the Input Shaft looks..the way it's setup. Unless it's missing a big chunk, the Engagement Teeth go all the way around on a stock one. Hopefully one of the sponsors here that build them on a regular basis can post a pic up..

The GTO (and C5) units have double-cone synchros on 3-4 and 5-6, so they have steps in the gears to hold the inner cone tangs. This is not a face plated trans, just a stock double-cone syncho setup.

Looks like Gen414 fixed us up with the parts. Hopefully we can get this back together this weekend.

It could have been alot worse.

It might not be a bad idea to check your end play.

I tried and I tried and I tried, I cant get the damn bearing race of the mainshaft. Im considering pulling the mainshaft, disassembling it, and going after it that way. Also the 3/4 fork has turned counter-clockwise about a half an inch and wont straighten back up . Pointers for me to get this done???

Personally, if it's giving you that much grief, it's probably taken some heat and might want to consider replacing the mainshaft.... Regardless, take it as karma telling you to tear apart the entire trans and inspect everything while putting it back together..
