T-56 won't go into 5th
Well after about 3 years I just picked up a 99 ws6. The 6 spd will not shift into 5th gear. The guy I bought the car from said it didn't do that until he installed the short throw shifter and tole me "it just needs to be adjusted."
Did i get b.s.'ed ? What needs to be my plan of attack here?

Loosen the lock nut, and turn the adjustment screw out, its prolly an allen wrench.
drive the car with that adjustment screw backed out, and see if it goes into 5th better.
If not, the trans might be F'd. let us know

Cross your fingers man, but usually if the shifter is out of adjustment it will have a hard time going into 4th and 5th. The same thing happened to my car a few weeks after I bought it. I didnt worry about it untill last summer when I had Texas Motorsports build me a beefed up t56. They are a sponsor on here and Mike is a good guy to deal with. Ive put about about 6k miles on my unit so far with zero issues.

okay so there is no adjustment on the shifter. It looks like a piece of s*** to be quite honest with no aftermarket markings. I'll post up pics in a minute.
Also the transmission will go into 5th with the clutch in when not moving. When attempting to engage 5th on the move it grinds.....

Could be a bent shift fork. A buddies z28 had that happen when he missed 3rd. He slammed it into 6th a couple times and it started working again. Ghetto i know but it is a thought.

Mine has a problem with 5th too..the only way I can get into it is when I'm coming from 3rd of 4th.. I can't shift into it from 6th of sitting still. It doesn't grind, just completely blocks me out.
I built it with the Tick Stage II Kit, so it has Carbon Fiber Synchro's. It started doing it at the 2500 mile mark, I'm just going to pull it apart and switch the 5th and 6th Synchro Ring around and see what it does.

Yeah, I cant go down from 6th to 5th at all either.
If I drive normal shifting up though the gears I can get it to go in. But, in order for it to ingage once its in 5th I have to put some force to push it just a little futher to click in gear.
I took the console out last night and adjusted the shifter mutiple times while driving down a back road. It has improved but still nowhere near where it should be. I've had several cars with where syncros went bad and this really just dosent seem like a syncro. Based on some other advice given I am starting to lean towards the shift pad being worn down. Which would give reason for me having to put extra force to it once already in gear.

Thanks, you just made up my mind with the pics.
I have never been in an m6 tranny, the forks are toward the rear right? I guess I mean, how far does the tranny have to be tore down to get to them? Just trying to get an idea if I could get in there on my own or if I need someone else to do it.
