I'm not sure how exactly he had the shop make the $260 1 off custom special slip yoke but, my understanding was that it was going to be an amazing durable piece that can be safely/properly machined by the shop and that my th400 slip yoke was not able to handle machining because of the poor material.

I have been following this thread for a while and just wanted to say thanks 85MikeTPI for compiling the write up. I learned more about the differences in t56s from this thread than any other, whether i want to do the SSR upgrade or not. How is this not a sticky?

Thanks. Glad folks have found it useful and opening up the hybrid concepts now in the tr6060/magnum age.

I've read this thread in-depth but still need a little help. I have an 05 cts-v which i'm starting the 1000 hp build. Was wondering what exactly would be needed to make this conversion to my stock t-56. would like to go one piece counter shaft with the ssr mainshaft for strength but was also looking at just the viper mainshaft. i'm also going the extra mile with cryogenic treatment to all the parts/gears

Jason@TDP can build these for you if you're not comfortable doing it. If you are DIY and have a specific question, fire away.

What length slip yoke are you using for the 32 spline conversion? Jason is building mine now and he normally uses a cut down 8" cast TH400 yoke, but I want a chromoly yoke. The only ones that I can find are 5 3/4" long and he usually uses a 6 1/2 ". Is there anything wrong with using the 5 3/4 " long yoke? anyone have an issue with using one that length? Thanks.

Very cool.. I was wondering when you were going to update your build thread.. Looks nice.. Make sure everything is supported well, you don't want that transfer case snapping off the C5 T56 tail housing.

My SSR-Hybrid is tucked under my C4-LS3/L99 conversion project.

Just got the custom (Th400 yoke -> Dana44 on 1350 u-joints) Denny's driveshaft delivered and installed this week.

Mike: what tailhousing, ouput shaft, and seal is that in the pictures? Reason I am asking is that Jason from TDP did my 32 spline T56 and I had a problem with the bushing and yoke overheating. We have yet to figure out why. But the bushing he used didnt have a seal like this and I am wondering if it possibly wasnt getting lubricated well enough. Thanks

Mine is All stock Tremec/GM SSR tailhousing/output/seal/bushing as listed in the PDF writeup for the C6-Z06 1pc countershaft donor hybrid.

If yours was a 2pc countershaft, you would have a bored F-body tail and possibly a felpro TH400 bushing&seal ?? Best to ask TDP.

I already sent the trans back to Jason. Im just looking for something better for a bushing/seal. What was in it was essentially just a long bushing. There was no rubber seal. The grooves in it only extended about 3/4 of the way on the bushing and it looks like the lack of fluid over the whole bushing caused it to overheat and expand, thus ruining everything around it. I like the look of the bushing and seal you used alot better. Can you put the ssr bushing and seal into an f-body tailhousing?

Im sure Jason will take care of it. He is a great guy and the trans is awesome.

Wow, I'm glad I found this thread. I want to keep my car a fun street car when I put my APS kit on it and this 'mutant trans' might just be the perfect way to keep things in check.

The bushing and seal are custom maching and shops can
Use what they think are best and machine the tailhousings
To fit thier choice. I only used the GM SSR bushing and
Seal and had no issue.

There's a few posts in this thread where other parts were used, some not totally successful.. YMMV

Yes, I guess mine is an unsuccessful one. lol. I'm sure Jason will sort it out. And I read through your write up and viewed all of the pictures. It was very helpful. So did you use the ssr bushing and seal in the f-body tailhousing or what did you use? Any part #'s if you have them. I would much rather have mine go back together looking the way your tailhousing does. Just seems to make more sense. The way mine was, it was relying on metal to metal contact to be the seal. I cant even imagine why anyone would make a part like that. Thanks

Part#s are all in the PDF write up.

Pics of your seal might help figure out what went
Wrong. Sounds like the rubber seal may have burned
Or broken off, or you were expected to purchase a
Seal and install?

I just got finished tearing my mn12 apart and found that the 5/6 gear came off the shaft without a puller. Seems as though my mainshaft will need to be replaced because of excessive wear on the journals. So I did a search and stumbled upon this thread. Thanks for thrashing this build out over the years. Looks like I can turn my misfortune into a massively upgraded trans. Awesome write up and forum contributions!
