L92/VVT in C4 vette LS/T56 swap
I'm still gathering parts for my C4/L92 (LS3?) swap. I haven't gotten to the point of being able to mock up the block w/accessories, and I was wondering if anyone knows if the VVT + accessories had a snow-***** chance of fitting in the C4 engine bay? I've been searching here and around the net, but haven't turned up anything directly related, other than opinions if the truck accessories would work in the vette swap. Since the VVT pushes everything out 1.5" further than the C5/C6 LS accessories, I haven't committed to the VVT, but would sure like to keep it if at all possible..

Thanks.. I had already hit up all those threads. Sounds like you tried the +3/4" F-body accessories and had issues, so the +1-1/2" VVT accessories are not looking good.. If I can dig up some cheap/free parts to use for the mockup, I may still give it a shot, but since my motor didn't come with any accessories, I don't want to buy good ones just to find out they won't work.

(My Summer was lost healing after Surgery on my elbow)
I finally brought my '92 vette roller in from storage and started mocking up for the L92/L99 swap. I used stock C4-LT1 engine/frame mounts and the speedhound C4 L98->LS1 conversion brackets, and the engine sits about 1inch from the firewall and still leaves me 3->4 inches in front of the Truck/VVT pulley. The T56/Cbeam is fit in and the Melrose C4-LS swap header fit like a dream.
My plan is to utilize the VVT and get a TSP VVT cam. Heads have already been rebuilt and PAC 1518 springs installed. For accessories, my plan is:
- 2010 Camaro L99 water pump
- LS3 corvette P/S and alt bracket, w/ 1.5" spacers
- KWIK 2010 Camaro AC bracket w/ Sanden
The 2010 Camaro oil pan is too low, so I have a LS3 vette pan coming. I have an empty (mains spun) LS1 block, empty T56 shell, borrowed unloaded heads, my LS3 intake, and quicktime bellhousing hooked up for the mockup work. I've held off finishing the refresh on the L92 until I figured out if I could use the VVT or not.
My SSR-hybrid 1000hp T56 will get installed along with the L92(L99) motor over the Winter, now that the mockup is mostly done. I'm going to piggyback the LT1 ECM with the E38 ECM, to run all the dash/interior electronics of the C4. I'm sure most of the Winter will be hunting gremlins..

I believe this is the wiper motor in the back:

Seems to be plenty of clearance between it and the head, but I haven't test-fit the valve-cover and coil packs with it yet.

I committed to the VVT by picking up a VVT-2 cam from Texas Speed (TSP). (Heads have previously been freshened and PAC1518 springs installed)
The L92 is being rebuilt/refreshed with all new bearings/bolts/gaskets while it's apart, and upgrading the rods & dished pistons for if/when I decide to drop a TVS2300 on top.
----------
Mahle L92314070I12 Chevy L92-LS3 Inverted Dome Piston PowerPak 376c.i.,4.070 Bore,3.622 Stroke,6.125 Rod,1.314 Compression Height,0.927 Pin,-12cc Vol. 466g,9.3 c/r, 2618 Aluminum
SCAT 4340 H-beam Connecting Rods - 6.125" Length - 2-350-6125-2100A - ARP-2000 bolts
ARP mainstuds w/ block line hone
--------------
I also am awaiting a Corvette LS3 oil pan to give me the ground clearance on the C4.
Should have some more pics in the coming weeks as I start replacing the mockup parts with the real thing.

0-mile takeoff vette LS3 pan, pump, pickup, tray.
TSP VVT-2 camshaft
Rods are at the engineshop. Waiting to hone/verify the block before ordering the Pistons. Since we're studding the bottom-end, the machinist wants to TQ all the caps in place with the studs in case there's any block flex. We'll then send it out for the align hone.

Are you sticking with the heavier L92 valves or going to hollow stem? Did you talk to TSP to make sure the rates on those PAC springs are appropriate? Did you get the accompanying phaser limiter and a good set of pushrods?

I haven't got the phaser limiter or pushrods yet, but they are on the "list".. long list... ;-)

Still collecting parts for the conversion and watching the engine build progress.. Full pics continually uploaded to http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28...VetteLSmockup/ and included some here also..
New since last post:
- ARP main studs
- 2010 Camaro VVT cover & phaser
- Block honed, line honed
- Vette LS3 Alt./PS bracket (1-1/2" spaced out)
- Vette LS3 Air Intake with MAF card
- ARP Head studs
- ATI damper from 2010 Camaro
- CompCam phaser limiter

I talked to them about it over PM and they recommended against running those springs with the VVT-2. You may want to talk to them again to get a feel for their comfort level. Single springs are lighter and perhaps easier on the rockers, pushrods and phaser, but if you start loosing control over the valves it's not gonna be pretty. I got my VVT-2 kit from them for Christmas, including the dual springs. I just hope the pushrod length works out. I hate sewing machine sounds.

I hear ya.. The VVT2 is on the edge, another reason I didn't go with the larger VVT3 cam.
227(I)/235(E) .614/.621 113LS
The 1518s are rated to .650 lift and used safely around .610 and under in a lot of cars. The .614/.621 lift will in between, but I'm not building a drag car or spinning it high... YMMV
