Default 1st Gear Grind

Hey guys for some reason my car has developed a first gear grind. It does it almost everytime I try to put the car into first. I cant downshift into first at all anymore unless Im completely stopped. This is strange cause the other day the car seemed like there was more tension getting it into 1st gear than ever before and then the very next day it started these symptoms. 1st gear synch? Is this very common? What has to be done to fix it? Does anybody know how much it costs to repair the T56? I hear some people saying like $500 bucks for one of the vendors off here but I checked their website and it says over $1000 so am I reading something wrong? Thanks for any help. Oh and the car does go into every other gear just fine, no grinding of any kind so theres no way it can be the clutch itself right? Im not very knowledgeable of the internals of a tranny.

Thanks

If one gear has the issue only, its definitly internal. Depending on the work you want done and if you pull your own trans, that will determine what the cost is.

Yeah Ive been doing that today as well, the only problem is down shifting. If Im stopped I can do that but if I need to down shift into first while rolling it just aint gonna happen.

I get this sometimes when I am down shifting into first at speed. Sometimes i have a hell of a time getting into first from nuetral at a stoplight but its few and far between. I thought it was a design flaw of the first gear synchro not to be able to see much rpm on the way into first. ???

My car never did it before and then all the sudden one day just started in. It was akward because it got harder to go into first in the morning that day and then this happened so Im sure something internal went wrong.

drain and fill it with cheap dex 3 ( oreilly brand or advance auto part brand ), see if that help, it does help me down shift to first while moving to stop sign, before fluid change, it wont let me at all, and some time it wont even let me get into first while at stop sign, after fluid change, it change all that.
